a freind of mine i ride with has a 2003 sxviper completely stock and he blows me away with his gas milage. better than my 03 rx-1. our last trip he got 165 miles on a tank of gas and still had about a gallon left.i beleive it's an 11 gallon tank. that seems to be outragous for a 700 triple. i told him if hhe ever sold it i'd buy for a second sled. :yam:

My brothers 2002 Viper does almost as good of mileage as my 03 RX-1 does, and its a riot to ride to. He rides it hard all day long and still does 14+ mpg. If all I rode were tight twisty trails I'd deffinitely ride a Viper.

Viper gas tanks hold 11.6 gallons of fuel if topped out. That is nothing amazing about him getting 14+ MPG, what do you get riding together with him on your RX-1, you should do better than him :)

my brother's xtc 700 will get 17 m[g if easy on the gas and I know nos-pro said his old sxr 700 could get 17

My old RX warrior always got alot better gas milage than my buddys Viper does.. he would be on E and i would have a 1/4 tank or better left

Had a 03 Viper ER for a couple of months back in 2003, and always got 16+ MPG even with my 260 lb butt on it. I got about 14 MPG with my 04 Warrior. I now get about 15-16 MPG with my 05 RX-1, and my riding style hasn't changed. So definitly, the Viper gets good gas milage.

Around here we are not able to beat the RX-1 when it comes to gas milage, riding conditions are lakes and rivers. Pretty good flatlander conditions. We ride at high speeds 80-100 MPH, this is where the RX-1 shines. At slower speed under 55 MPH the Viper, SRX, SXR and RX-1 are more equal when it comes to fuel consumption. This is me and my bunch of buddies observations over the past 4 years, best ever on one of our RX-1s is 18.9 MPG, Vipers 15.7 MPG, SRXs 15.2 MPG, SXRs 14.7. The old Enticer ET340 would have beat even the RX-1, but we can't find any one to test LOL.

A lot of it has to do with clutch set up(RPM), even with the 4 strokes !!
But then again some are better than others.............

My 03RX1 with HH, 14-16 MPG
My 03RX1 with stock clutches, 15-17 MPG
My brothers 03RX1 with lower than stock engagement and RPM clutches,
18-21 MPG.
My wife's 03 Viper ER 16-18 MPG, Stock with exception to a Bender can.
My daughter's 02Viper ER 13-15 MPG, stock with exception to a Sno stuff can.

I ride with a buddie on a Viper also, he gets as good of mileage as I do with my GT. We always fill up at the same time. Sunday I got about 11mpg in the rolling fields..... what a blast. I was WFO all day long in them wide open rollers 108 miles in 40 miles of land. I love riding in powder fields. Doug

Power and RPM fellas. the Apex makes 150hp and spins almost 11000 RPm's. Throw a set of CPR or SLP pipes on the Viper which will make it about 150hp and I bet you the gas mailge is about 9 mpg.

The reason the RX-1 got better milage is it made less power. Look at the vector I hear they get 18 to 20 depending on the rider. Tehy make 30 less HP and spin about 8400 rpm's

MPG does NOT correlate directly with HP, and using aftermarket engine modifications is NOT a good example since they arent designed for efficiency. Sometimes a bigger engine is actually more efficient. Reason I bought a big V6 outboard for my boat rather than a smaller V4 is that its more efficient to run the big engine slow than the small engine to its limits.

I'm out of this topic

i know i have an 1997 et410 and a 2001 sx500r.
my brother has 2002 viper.

when the sxr almost dry the viper still has close to 1/2 tank left.

when the et410 runs dry (i carry a gallon kicker) the viper is on its last 2 bars on the gauge if we are trail crusin at 60kph.

the sxr is getting aprox 140 km to a tank of gas and its the same size tank as the viper.

if i am hammering hard on the 410 it gets around 120km per tank (wot most of the trip).

Them twins have always been thirsty, spesially the 500 twin.
