Installing 1.5" track

I talked to my dealer (avid Yammi rider) about doing this and he told me I should remove the tunnel protectors or notch the track. A 1.5" might fit but if it did it would be right at the limit. It's close enough that it probably wouldn't hurt to let the protectors notch the track by letting it rub, if you felt comfortable doing that. Up here that's pretty common by the old timers, some of them even sharpen the tunnel protectors for this reason. Unless you're running studs, then that's a total different story.

I took mine out. The track ( 1.5 Crossover ) rubbed a bit, I didn't want any drag created when the track 'balloons'. The track would have been slamming into the protectors robbing performance. I'm not running studs at all, so it wasn't a big deal. Plus, IMO, snow and ice finds a way to build up to them anyways.

If you do decide to remove them, check out the link (page 8) below to give yourself an idea of the job. It's not bad at all, just takes a little bit of time is all.

Take em out, I did. Do it the right way and remove the seat and tank, and drill out the rivets from the top side, then cut out the front cooler protectors.

it will have clearance issues, just remove them since you wont be studding

it has some clearance but the front protectors will wear on the track. Notch the track above the windows about 1/4" and it will be fine.

I will be installing a 1" studded track later in the season. I'm not really into removing the tunnel protectors for the 1.5" track. I guess I'll try notching the track instead. Will that solve the problem????

Just let it rub in. It will be done in less than 100 miles and you will never notice it rubbing. Maxdlx

I thought I would do that last year on my Intense 1-1/2 I had on. When I pulled the track after a 1000 or so miles it wore throught the front cooler protectors. The aluminum protectors were wore through as was the track that was beat up.
