Anyone with an 06 Apex GT not remove the tunnel protectors and have added a 136 inch kit with a Ripsaw 1.5 inch track and not rub? I know some guys that have trimmed the track in the path of the tunnel protectors so they don't hit. Just wondering if they actually do hit or not?
Any help/ ideas would be great JODY

Pro116 did you have the tunnel protectors removed? and if so what does it rub against when it bottoms out or it doesn't hit anything it is just the suspension maxing out it's travel.
I'm just wondering with my tunnel protectors removed with the 1.5" track will the suspension max out or limilt it's travel before hitting the underside of the tunnel. My biggest fear is that looking up underneith the machine I see a crossmember going across from side to side just before the muffler which will be exposed when i remove the tunnel protectors and I'm wondering if the track will reach that high when I bottom out because if it will, I will do alot of damage when the track rips at that crossmember.
Any help Please and Thank you Jody

I already did this on mine and it does not hit the protectors. Change the thing already and stop the worrying. You sound like an old lady.

tunnel protectors
Hi Srxspec: This quote was from an old post, that I searched out on TY, but would like to confirm again with you if you don't mind.
I have an 08 Apex LTX mono, and am in the process of putting on a new 1.25" fully clipped Ripsaw track, there will be no studs, and I do have a rear heat exchanger. While I'm at it, I was considering removing the tunnel protectors, primarily for the ice build up issue. Is there any risk of the track ever coming in contact with the exhaust clamps, muffler or the rear heat exchanger? If/when the suspension bottoms out, does the track come close enough to these areas to be worried about damaging the track?
Thanks for any feedback you can give me!

I have an '06 Apex that I did a Muffinworks 136" extension on..I installed a 1.5" lug track...I left the protectors in place...it is close but it doesn't hit...if it does I can't see it making any difference..i put nearly 800kms on my sled this winter and zero issues with track rubbing..

Curious, how much clearance is there to the front cooler from tip of lugs? You run 9 tooth extros and 1.75 bc track, right? Thx!YamerHammer said:I have the back country 1 3/4 with protectors off and there isn't a prob. The protectors are for the studded folks.

I´m having some kind of a problem removing the tunnel protectors. I´ve drilled all the rivets but those ones under the exhaust joints. I removed the joints just to find out that the rivets still can´t be drilled from there, since there is another aluminum plate on top of them.
How did you guys remove those rivets in the front? Drilling from under the tunnel or just ripping the protectors off? My friend used the ripping method and tore a hole where the rivets were.
I hope you understand what I´m trying to say, english is not my native language.

I managed to remove the bastards, but it was lot more work than I thought it would be.

Kinda off topic here but, instead of everyone trying to add tunnel protectors or hyfax's etc. to there stock protectors for more protection, why can't you just drop your stock protectors down? Like just add some washers between the protectors and the nuts to lower them down like a shim? Is this a dumb idea or would this work? I see no problems with justing shiming them lower with washers...

The front two rivets need to be either ground/chiseled off from below if you can get to them, or what I did is remove a couple of rivets from the the aluminum heat shield below the headers and lift it enough to reach in and chisel the front tunnel protector rivet heads off.
Bit of horsin around, but gets the job done, then have a Pint!
