I'm in. I have ridden 4-500 mile days and love it.
Always watched and always wanted to do it. If we can get a team together, I am IN!

I talked to one of the guys associated with that race , when the Apex came out they decided not to let Yamaha run in it . (Last I heard).

You are correct, sort of. You can not run the 150hp class sled in this race. It was banned last year. You can run the 3 bangers though( Vector, nytro, etc. ). I was going to run this race until they did that. I still get the emails from the lady up there offten. It is a viguraus race and you need to train all year for this. 500 miles a day won't cut it. You are running 2000 miles in about 30 hours. You are required to take your layovers, so it works out to something like 3 days. You are in -60 weather , blizzards and rough terrain of Alaska. You must sign a waiver form, quit smoking, quit coffee, fully modify your sled, etc. You will freeze to death if you don't follow the rules. It costs something like 2500.00 just to enter. This race is a serious matter, not your normal Sunday cruise before heading home. You are mantaining speeds in access of 70mph all day throught trails, rough country and speeds of over 100mph for the first part of the race for many many miles as you run the yahara river. Here's the link to the web page. Enjoy, and if you do go, be careful up there and enjoy yourself.

Yeah......so whats your point? Are you "1CrazySledder" or what?? Let's ride!
Bandit is right....what you are talking about is the PRO Class. The "trail class" is only a 1000 miles.

I live in Fairbanks and get to watch the finish of the race every year. Please take the previous advise about the harsh conditions. This race will destroy stock sleds, I don't care who makes them. Carry lots of duct tape and bring lots of tools and parts to stage at the check points.
Again, I live here and ride these same rivers and "trails". They are nothing like you've ever seen before. Most of this race isn't even a trail, it's just open tundra and rivers. What they do call a trail is probably an old dozer path covered with snow. Nothing groomed, all true wilderness. This race will truly make you or break you. If cost is an issue also remember besides entry fees there may be stiff charges for flying your gear and supplies to the checkpoints.
Anyhow, best of luck if you decide to do it and if you need any local support give me a shout. I'm always willing to help my fellow Yammi riders. (and tow the other ones)

Thanks for the offer Bashley....I am not minimizing this race. I have watched this race for many years via the web and know that it's a very tough race....(that's what makes it so appealing) I love this kind of stuff. I have done many things in my life to "push the envelope" and doing it on a snowmobile would be a dream come true.
I have no doubt that this is a grueling race. I expect it to be VERY cold and I seriously doubt you guys in AK are dragging a groomer down that path to the finish line.
However the way I see it....people do this race every year and finish so I figure if one man can...so can I. I have no problem trying. I'm not looking to win....I'd just be looking to finish!

I could careless where I finish... I just want to say that I did it.. I am not going to push it 100mph... Not my sytle... I will get up and going but I will ride within reason... I know its very cold and extremely harsh envoriment.. That is what makes it something I want to try. I am hoping to figure out what I need for spare parts and stuff over time, get everything together before hand. I know if I did race it I would end up breaking a lot more then if I do it as a trail class rider. Pushing a sled at 100mph is bound to break something.

I glad to someone has done thier homework before jumping into a race like this. I've entertained the thought a couple times myself but had a hard time convincing myself (and the wife) to shuck out a few grand to run a race I wasn't confident I'd win. But like SnowBandit said, I'd just like to say I finished it. Never gave much consideration to the trail class either. Way cheaper if just wanna run it, but it doesn't look like they let you do the full route. Anyway, gotta go finish getting my Attack ready to ride, we're getting snow hanging around the 1500' elev. Should be here in town within a couple weeks.

This is something I have to plan. I am all the way across the country in Maine.. I have always wanted to see AK.
Do you happen to know if their are any ferrys or such out of WA that run to AK in the winter? I am was thinking I could drive to WA and hop on a ferry north... Save a ton of time as its a 80 hour drive or about 4,600 miles one way for me..

Yes, the Alaska Marine Highway's southernmost port is in Bellingham WA, about 1 1/2 hr north of Seattle. Check out www.alaskaferry.com for all the info. I'm originally from Kentucky and I can tell you AK is a must see. I've been here 11 years and I'll (probably) never move back to the lower 48. Especially with 7 months of ridable snow! Possibly 8 if you go high enough.
