Hello, I was just wondering if any other Attak owners ran into the same issue I just did. I was update my headlight bulbs to OSRAM bulbs per another thread. When I removed the screw on my headlight access panel, I heard the noise that always makes my toes curl up. clink, clink,..... I guess this was the "thing" the screw was attached to dropping into my engine comparement.
Anyone know what this "thing" or clip is?
I pull my side panel off to confirm the "thing" that dropped was in the main engine comparment. I pulled the belly pan plate off no luck finding it. So I guess that I must pull off my air box to see if I can find the "thing".
Sorry for my rambling, I called my local dealer to ask if they knew what the "thing" that dropped down into my engine looked like. The person on the phone could not figure out from the Yamaha parts diagrams what this "thing" was. They did narrow it down to two different styles.
Thanks for any ideas or information anyone coudl give me.

I'd say either a thread clip for the screw or those threaded rubber gromets like the ones the windshield screws go into. I lost 3 or 4 of those changing my windshield outside in the cold. Anyways, see what would work best for the screw you took out and pick one up at the dealer. I wouldn't worry about the piece in the tub. I drove around for a couple months with those gromets in my tub before the dealer removed them while doing the oil change.

This is the worse designed mounting system in the industry. Forget on trail almost impossible to do anything in your garage,

Deja vu. Same thing happened to me. There is a clip on each body panel which the next panel screws through. They don't cling to the panel once the screw is removed. I found out that they're $3.60 each too! Pinch each one of the clips closed when you replace it and use some light adhesive so it stays attached to the body panel next time you back out the screw.
I'm really glad I found this out in the barn!

I'm planning on changing out my headlights next weekend, are there any tricks to keep the origional clips? I know that I'll loose them and then won't be able to get new ones in before I go riding in two weeks. I also guess I don't know what clpis you guys are talking about as I haven't lost them yet. Any info is great!!
I too had a couple of those clips drop down while I was replacing my bulbs, but luckily they each fell into a place where they could be easily retrieved. If you do happen to drop them, you can always take a magnet and fish around under there and hope you latch onto something. Had to do that many times with my old SRX.

When you're removing the gauge pod, try to get a finger behind the clip when you back out the side pod panel screw and hold the clip in place as the screw comes out. It's the large black head screw. The clip is actually on the gauge pod itself not on the small side panel. You on;y need to take off one side then the gauge pod will slip off.
Also, I found one of those small telescopic magnet wands work well if they fall into the engine compartment.

I did mine on my couch in my house. Took the whole pod off and brought it in the house. Was installing a temp and oil pressure guage at the same time.

I changed mine with the pod still attached to the sled, no big deal.

Same thing happened to me. I bought replacements at a NAPA auto parts store. They are called speed clips or speed nuts. The replacements are harder to find though because they are metric threads. I checked Home Depot and Lowes, they had them but they only had SAE(Standard) sizes. Check in NAPA stores in the section they sell body panel parts. This is where I found mine, signifigantly cheaper than what Yamaha is charging. When I put the clips back on, I crimped them so they stayed on.

I found the two clips. One was under the airbox and the other bounced on top of exhaust cover. I'll really need to credit my wife for the one on the exhaust cover. So fix the issue I used dot of epoxy on each one. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Im about to change my bulbs as well, but not sure what these clips are that everyone is loosing, and im sure ill loose them too, as it tends to happen often.
On a parts daigram, could anyone tell me what these clips are?, and how do you keep them from falling out in the first place?

It looks to be similar to part # 3 in that diagram, but I dont think those are the exact ones others are referring to. Take a look at diagram below, maybe a better pic. In this diagram it is part # 8, circled in RED. There are probably more of these clips all over the front of the sled. These are just the ones I experienced to fall right off once you take the screws out. Hope this helps.

When I take it all apart im going to really take my time to try and keep stuff from falling.
