Hello,
I just put a manual boost controller in my Bender II last night as I was testing today I ran into some issuses.. I presently have it set for about 14lbs at WOT (race gas) the problem is if I back off to around 3/4 throttle or maybe a little more the boost goes up to 17+ lbs!
I under stood that you pull the #200 jet that is in the stock bender setup when you replace the high/low switch with the controller. Other than that the controller (basically a valve) is just put in the loop from the boost senser on the turbo to the valve & then to the wastegate..
Did I miss something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Tony

Patience young man, some people work for a living and don’t have time to be on the computer 24*7, I’m sure someone will come up with the answer. Question for you, do you have a blowoff valve installed, and where do you pick your boost reading from?

I know, I know..... Sorry about that....
It's just that I took the day off to get my sled ready for a radar run tommorow.... Ands it's really nice out...

Presently I do not have a BOV... I have a bypass/BOV that I tried but I had to order much bigger pilots so I had to take it off till I get the right jets as it changed things alot...

I pick up the reading from the intercooler, right in front of the carbs.

Do you think I'm stacking? I get the high reading when going up on the throttle too..
Thanks
Tony

I no expert here, but I don't know what a BOV would have to do with pilot jets. I take my boost reading behind the carbs, just before the head. I was told to take it from there. When you take it from the intercooler, you will probably get higher readings than your motor is actually seeing, and that spike is when the carbs slam shut, your turbo is still spooling and without a BOV the pressure builds and could pop off your intercooler. Like I say I'm no expert but have been learning myself by asking questions. Hope this helps.

boost control

I bet you have the boost gauge in the innercooler not in the engine side of the carbs. Like was said above....

Yes, my boost pickup is on the is on the intercooler side.

The thing that is throwing me here is when I had the "stock" Hi/Low boost switch from benders it didn't do this. I was set at 11 high/5 1/2 low with the switch. Yes, at 11 lbs it would over boost about 1 lb for about 1 second.
Now its fine at full throttle but over boosts about 4 lbs over at 3/4 throttle. I could see it being stacking if it was just a case of letting off the throttle with out a BOV. But this does it on the was up too..

I guess I'll just pull it out & put the switch back in for the weekend
thanks
Tony

What kind of contoller. It is some what normal for you have have a little more boost at 3/4 but not that much. You might want to make the rod longer and turn up your boost contoller some to get your 14psi. That should fix your problem.

To measure the actual amount of pressure the engine is getting please attach your boost picup to the carb boots close to the engine. The boots have nipples for attaching the lines necessary for the boost pickup. I am not familiar with the bender, but my MCX rear have a line between carb boots 1 and 4 where my bov and boost meter is attached. Some guys have connected all 4 boots together with great success.
