Jackshaft bearing install question

OK, so I have everything buttoned up on all three APEX's but I need to tighten the lock nut to the collar that holds the bearing in place. What is the trick here? :o| I tried spinning the shaft but the collar just spins. :o| So I need to some how hold the collarand tighten the nut using a spanner wrench tool .

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
 
The bearing came out pretty good on two of the three I am doing right now. I have no problem holding the nut with the spanner wrench, its the damn collar that spins. Its got two small slots on it but I have nothing to hold it in place. So when I try to tighten the nut, the whole thing spins :drink:
 
install your secondary clutch so that you can use the clutch to turn with your hands. Put the spanner in place and let it lock while you spin the secondary with your hands and spanner stays in place holding the nut and tightens up. I usually do it before installing chain, but if you have everything put together, you should be able to spin the jackshaft with your track off the ground.

OHH I SEE, I will be paying attention to this post then, I am going to be installing bearings this weekend, let us know if you figure something out, can you put something in hole to hold collar or wrap a rag around collar and vise grip it????
 
Dano, that's exactly what I did, but I dont seem to be getting enough preassure on the collar for it to seat onto the shaft, therefore it the shaft just spins when I do that method. I have oil on the shaft, maybe I need to use brake cleaner to make a dry surface for the metal to seat properly. That is the only thing I can think of. And yes, like a dummy I buttoned up the case already so I need to get the track in the air now to rotate that thing.

THere is no way to get any vice grip or plyer on this collar, its flush with the bearing and has two small slots, like there is a special tool that might look like a socket with two prongs?

I took a short length of 3/8" wide steel flat bar and ground a narrow 'tab' on the end of it , just wide and deep enough to engage one of the slots in the collar inside the bearing (from the secondary side). Carefully lock this tool onto the jackshaft using vicegrips, and it will prevent the collar from spinning on the jackshaft while you tighten it.
 
I tapped the threaded part flush with the bearing before I started tightening and it was enough friction that it didn't spin when I tightend the collar.
