Jetting RX-1 MCXpress turbo - HURRICANE's turbo springs

Sound good hope the Holtzman silver carb springs work for you. They did not work for me at all.

What do you think of my 14.7 AFR at 14-15 lbs of boost cruising steady at 120 mph speedo on the lake?

To me it's scary lean for the boost I run high speed cruisin.

I will have to ride it to know how the silver works, haven't got the time yet. How did the silver springs work your sled, in what part did they fail?

Yea alittle lean i would try and just stay out of that spot.. My sled ran like crap. Did not even look at a/f ran about 1 miles down the trail and right back! Sled what popping,missing,---------

Skydog

You are right, I may slow down trail cruising to 100 mph LOL at 10-12 lbs or give it wot and run 130+ cross the lake.

I'll give it a try one of the next days and I will know how she does. I figured I might as well give em a try since I had them in my stocker. I ran my stocker with the green springs and couldn't notice any changes from running the silver springs.

Man, 280 on pump on stock compression ??? I'm at 280+ now running 9.13:1 for compression on pump gas. I may throw out one head gasket and run 10:1 CR and 18 lbs with meth alco water injection. Would have been something :-)

Have you got any mileage injected, how do you like it? I am really interested in this kit, and so are my turbo friends here in Lakselv.

Yea it is working GREAT!!!!! Have about 150+ miles of hard boost on pump! Have used about $10.00 in alcohol! :) :)

Skydog P.S. The guy i get the kit from is going to be stopping out to look at my sled and get some pics/info up on his web page.

Takeoff rpms: 13.5
Driving slow: 13.0
Cruising 0 lbs of boost: 13.5
Cruising 5 lbs of boost: 13.0
Cruising 10 lbs of boost: 12.8 (1/2 throttle)
Cruising 14-15 lbs of boost: No data
WOT 16 lbs: 10.9-11.4
Temps on today were -6C or 21F
Altitude: 0-200 meter or 0-600 ft

Jetting:
Main jets = 132.5
Pilot jets = 17.5
Pilot screws = 2.0 turns out
Needle = 3 position
Holtzman silver carb springs
STM Billet Carb Caps

I have installed a set of Holtzman silver carb springs. I figured the silver carb springs would let the slides lift higher at the same throttle position letting in more fuel at high boost cruise at 3/4 throttle, I was right about that. At idle nothing changed. At engagement speed nothing changed. At 5 hPc of vacuum slow cruise, 30 kmt or 20 mph, AFR were 13.5-14.0. At 0 lbs and 5 lbs steady cruise AFRs were the same as before. At 10 lbs steady cruise AFRs were 12.8, much better and a change in the right direction, AFRs went down when boost rose :-). WOT AFRs were about the same as last time out.

I feel that my carb setup is about as good as it gets. Sled ran clean and crisp with no popping and farthing whatsoever, throttle response is very good as well with the silver carb springs. I'm happy to be done jetting :-)

I will like to thank KnappAttak for providing info on the silver springs. When read that he had good results with the silver springs in his CPR turboed RX-1 I figured I would give them a try since I already had them in my 2005 RX-1.

I will also like to thank Skydog for his replies in our "carb jetting debate" the last few seasons :-)

I finally found a carb setup that works in my sled, I'm done with it.

Man that is great buddy!!!! So glad you got her!! I know what you feel, much better to sleep at night! HA HA

Skydog :jump:

LOL yeah I slept pretty good last night LOL

BTW - I'm going out to ride, weather is sunny, no winds and at last we have got about 8" of snow here at sealevel.

I'm very happy with my current carb setup, I'll keep it.

Jetting:
Main jets = 132.5
Pilot jets = 17.5
Pilot screws = 2.0 turns out
Needle = 3 position
Holtzman silver carb springs
STM Billet Carb Caps

AFR readings:
Idle hot: 15.5
Takeoff rpms: 13.5
Driving slow: 14.0-14.5
Cruising 0 lbs of boost: 13.5
Cruising 5 lbs of boost: 13.4
Cruising 10 lbs of boost: 12.8 (1/2 throttle)
Cruising 14-15 lbs of boost: 13.3
WOT 16 lbs: 10.9-11.6

My sled runs clean and crisp even in temps just below freeze :-)
I'm so done jetting my sled, :-)
And then the clutching begins LOL

Stock carb spring mod.

Jetting:
Main jets = 132.5
Pilot jets = 17.5
Pilot screws = 2.0 turns out
Needle = 3 position
Stock carb springs, cut down 32 millimeters
(I think I cut them a little too much, I will try another set cut down only 20 millimeters. This is a work in progress, still under R&D)
STM Billet Carb Caps

AFR readings:
Idle hot: 15.5-16.0
Takeoff rpms: 13.5
Driving slow: 13.5
Cruising 0 lbs of boost: 12.9-13.2
Cruising 5 lbs of boost: 12.8
Cruising 10 lbs of boost: 13.3 (1/2 throttle)
Cruising 12-14 lbs of boost: 13.6-13.8
WOT 15 lbs: 10.6-11.4

After cutting down the stock carb springs I started hitting the rev limiter when giving it wot from a standstill. Whatever the effect of the shorter carb springs, it mad more power earlier in the rpm range, no doubt about that. I will post more info later on when I have got more seat time with the mods I have made to the stock carb springs.

HAHAHA

I wanna say..... You told me so....on the silver springs. ..... hahahaha

The silver springs only work half way compared to what the cut down stockers does, she rocks now, it's plain crazy, where did all that power come from.

Power comes on earlier in the rpm range!!!

Honestly, I have not touched the boost controller, I'm only running her at 15 lbs of boost. I have 1 lbs to spare :-)

Rxrider - how many mm did you cut the OEM springs down?

I have a spare set - I guess I will give it a try also. Someone has to be the first one to try with the MPI/bender kit.

Only 15 psi - You are grazy. I'm just getting used to mine, and turning up the boost in baby steps. I guess I have small balls - LOL

BigDog05 - I've pm'd you.

TT - I will post everything when I am confident that there are no problems inherent with this mod. Since you have a Bender turbokit I would assume that you cannot directly use my specs when cutting. Nor can you use my carb specs. I would suggest that you start out cutting only a few windings off your springs at the time. Install and testride. Without a WBO2, forget it.

I have too little seat time with this setup to verify that it will work perfectly all around. I don't want you guys start cutting carbs springs unless I'm absolutely confident that this mod is working flawlessly.

Power is to be had no doubt, but I have a low end problem to work around before releasing all info. It is missing for a 10th of a second when giving it wot from a standstill or from very slow speeds, my WBO2 tells me it's going fat at low 10s when my slight miss appears. A little less on the pilot screws and/or lowering the needle some may fix the problem.

When she runs perfectly I will post my results and carb settings.
