Does anybody have any suggestions for a set of jumper cables to carry along? I'm looking for something light and compact that would fit in the storage compartment. I'd like them to be a smaller gauge cable, so they're flexible, but still be able to jump start my sled (07 Apex) in case it needed to be. First experience with a sled that doesn't have a "manual start" backup option.

Build your own set. I posted last year on what I made with small welders cable and soldered ends. If I find the post I will add the link here for you. Ok I found it here are some pictures of the final product.

You could also look into the battery tender. Mine came with either plug into wall socket or attachment for jumping for around $60. Keeps my battery tip top.

Thanks for the info, Dog. I thought about making some, but wasn't sure what gauge would be sufficient.
Black, I already have an Optimate charger. I was looking for something in case I wasn't near AC power. I also have a larger charger/starter that would work near home, but not out on trail, or at a pitstop.
Thanks for the input!!

I've got this one. http://www.mountainperformance.com/imag ... ble800.jpg
Had it for 3 years now but never used it for my sled, always had to jump other people's sled with it.
Here's MPI's website.

The Optimate comes with a cable that can be used as a jumper cable, when the mating end is attached to the battery. That cable already has the clamps on one end and a plug to match what is installed to the battery. It is fairly light and compact, too!

First off your battery isn't gonna die on the trail. There's nothing you can leave on to drain the battery while smoking, eating lunch or doing whatever it is you stopped for. If you actually do need a jump it will most likely be at the Lodge, Hotel, Motel or where ever you might be staying the night and you would most likely have a truck you could jump it from utilizing the cables you keep in the truck.
This is my 6th year with a Yamaha 4-stroke and I have yet to even have my sled roll over hard and not immediately fire to life regardless of the outside temps. at that given time

I guess it kind of goes like this. How often do you use jumper cables on a brand new car or truck? I made and carry mine in case I or anyone I meet needs them. As these sleds get older you can bet there is going to be more boosts being done.

Buy the set from YAMAHA,very compact and will fit in front of storage box under the bonnet,uh,i mean hood.GREAT PRICE 22.95 CDN.Made in the US,not CHINA.

I have a Yamaha set, they are nice as well as compact.
I'd say MightyRTX is one lucky guy. I have owned 3 of these and have had trouble 3 times. As the saying goes, Shi$$ happens... Like wires shorting out, battery cell goes bad (one to many hard landings), ect. It's very reliable over all, but nothings perfect.

How about this guys......... If you need a jump does it need to be from a sled???? Or would a truck / car jump be OK... I'm not to sure that a big amp battery would be to good for it.. :ORC P.S. I too carry a set of cables.. MM.
