I bought the sled wanting to put mpi turbo on it however Meyer Yamaha in ishpeming are not a dealer of mpi but the deal was right. The sled has 427 miles on it now. I talked to Kevin at port Yamaha he said bring it up and we will get it taken care of what's your opinions on doing it and with the dreaded rods. My build date is 5/15. Also am I able to buy the kit directly from mpi and have it dealer installed and not void my Y.E.S. Warranty?

You need to take a peak at the head! See if you have the old motor to start. You might have gotten lucky.... Maybe someone will chime in on the differences.. I think it has to do with the valve cover gasket...

The only MPI kit that does not void your warranty would be the non intercooled trail kit and I think that can be only purchased through Yamaha. Its a yamaha part number. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong? As far as the YES plan, Yamaha "Recommends" that a dealer installs the approved turbo kit but it's not mandatory you can do it yourself. We installed our own turbo kits and still retain our 5 year warranty. As far as your rods are concerned If they break Yamaha has been replacing the engine So I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I've been in contact with mpi many times. John is great, very helpful. Call them and ask for him.
He said there's some spring deals coming up.no details.
I can't see why he wouldn't sell the trail kit, in Canada Yamaha will not sell the kit anymore ( with warranty) due to the rod issue. I'm not going to tell you not to buy it because many have great luck. But there is a bad batch out there. 05/15 is likely the new engine. Look it up on here. Very easy to find.
I have the trail kit. If you have questions I can give ou my input.

@yamahaguys where does it say recommends dealer installed? I thought that was mandatory because they linked the charger to your vin number?

The dealer links the turbo kit to your sleds VIN number online with there dealer log in on Yamaha, If you have a good dealer they will do that for you. Mine did.
Maybe your dealer is telling you its Mandatory becasue they want to install it? Its a good money maker for them so I don't blame them for trying to sell you on the install.
Keep it mind, If you mess it up its on you, and from what I have read on here with some dealer installed kits that have been installed wrong its still on you.
