I picked up a 1999 500 Phazer for my son and wondering if there are any issues or anything I should watch out for?? This site has helped me out a TON :rocks: on my nytro and looking for pre fixes before it breaks! ;)!

Thanks BRIAN

great sled for a kid! nothing comes to mind as far as issues... might need suspension bushings depending on miles

X2 great sled for a kid, kind of fun for adults too!
No real issues with them. Pretty much just check over the normal stuff, clutches, drive axle bearings, idler wheel bearings, chain case oil, belt, suspension, track, hyfax, etc.

Check the engine cover screws around the cold air intake and make sure they're tight . I have seen these fall out and take out the fan, when that happens the plastic will melt like cheese over the heads and will wreck your day.

Keep carbs clean, check the reeds and make sure the fan belt is adjusted properly. They will run a long time and are very easy to maintain. If there is more than 5000 miles on it you may want to check your pistons and cylinders. Very easy to do on this engine and you don't want to damage a jug or case because they are hard to find used.

And it will easily handle 2 adults, right Ding lol!!

Absolutely, but mileage may vary (and so might suspension travel) :-o

Look closely for cracks on the W arm in the skid. Shocks may need attention depending on miles. Fuel economy not as good as triple two strokes!

Absolutly love our 01' zero issues other than normal maintenance of course, awesome little motor and just as bullet proof as it was in 84'.

Thanks for everybodys input and sorry for posting in the wrong forum!!!

Why ride anything else..may need new pistons at say 8K

The ramp has too much metal removed on the start..and it revs too much there.

I put an ealy THIN set of Thunder Products ramps with more aggressive start..it was like staying in 1st gear too long, stock. Not Necessary
I also machined the 2 washers and clutch to tuck the weights under for smoother start as well. Not necessary
Went couple degrees steeper on the helix..and it is a nickle plated version.
Did 1 more clutch thing but I can't tell you.

We have tight trails near Port Carling and its a blast. Nobody leaves this old guy behind.

check the head bolt torque at least once a season as the older ones would come loose once in awhile.
