Hey guys and girls, I just recently purchased a 2007 yamaha attak and have a couple of questions about it. My first impressions of this sled are wow! Very fast, love the fact of only having to worry about changing oil once a year instead of topping up all the time and it rides very nice! The type of riding that I do right now i'd say is about 75% on trail and 25% off. But with a couple of my buddies getting sleds this year im thinking that is going to change fairly soon to about 50/50. The problem im having is when im in the deep snow 1 ft or more, the sled just does not want to turn very well in the powder. It leans over the opposite way as im turning and just will not turn unless i slow right down to a crawl and then it will. Now i believe this sled has the yamaha dual runner skis and there is a 4inch carbide on the inside and no carbide on the outside. Any thoughts or ideas as to what I could change to fix this problem? Or is this just the nature of the best? Thanks in advance for your help everyone!

Oh and a little more info, when i ride on the trail it is usually not very aggressive riding (riding with my girlfriend and her parents) but when riding with my buddies in open fields and deep snow that is another story. ;)! Thanks!

Lean your body into the corner. More like hang your butt off the seat into the corner. This will get the sled to lean into the corner as well.

Be careful of letting off the throttle in deep snow. The sled will submarine.

Mountian skis will help a little in the 1' of snow.

Yes, don't be bashful with the throttle in a deep snow turn with an Attak. Use the power in the engine to turn this baby. Lean hard or better yet stand on the inside running board only and hit the throttle, you will be amazed what that machine can do as long as it doesn't get too deep or soft. Remember when riding off-trail, the seat is just for looks. Once it starts to get stuck, don't dig it in. They can be heavy enough to lift without burying them deeper. Set transfer to full and use the throttle to keep it on top. Keep track speed up as much as you can.

Another trick if you have room, is to turn the skis out just before turning into a deep snow turn. It will help lay the sled over and then the power will take it around the turn.

…reverse turning like riding a street bike will work equally well in deep snow on turns….if not better.
i tend to think of it as pushing on the same side of the handle bars as the direction you want to turn…while leaning in at the same time.
keeps the momentum down low (inside and on the apex) instead of pushing you toward the outside of the turn away from and off the machine.
the dynamics of the lean creates a whole new set of physics.
