Hello everyone! This is my first post as a member of this forum AND as a Yamaha snowmobile owner. It has been many years since I have owned a sled and back then it was Ski Doo...
I have owned several Yamaha Waverunners, including 4 strokes. Now it's time for a sled...And so I purchased a 2005 Venture 2 up this evening. It's in really great shape! I purchased it for $2000.00, so I think I did alright there. The only hesitation I have about it, is that it has 20,156 miles on it...
Did I buy a ridiculously high mileage sled and should be shunned or do I still have some significant life left in the motor? I'm going to bring it up to my local Yamaha dealer and have them do a complete service on it before the first snow up here in Maine...Should I ask them to service anything in particular?
Thanks in advance!

It's just getting broken in. I think 20,000 miles is time for the first valve adjustment. Really the motor should be fine, its all the other parts that you need to look over, clutches, idlers, bearings, track and suspension parts. Its a good riding sled though, my friend has one and he keeps up with all of us guys on so called sport sleds. I'll be riding my butt off and look back and he's right there. Good luck with it!

get them to check if the timing chain tensioner up date was done.
sxr70001 has pretty much nailed the list of stuff to look at on any sled.
i think nick keller has 80000 + miles on his now as he was at 79000 about mid season as he runs a vector witch is pretty much the same motor. i think hondo, at last post, had 45000 miles on his 05 venture. i think that proves with proper maintence these motors are good for an awsome amount of milage.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your input. I will bring it to the local dealership in the next week or two.
I was moving the sled off the sled and in a straight line in my yard to get it into the garage. I did smell burning rubber...Not sure if that is because it's just not on snow or if there is something I should be looking for...

Make sure the parking brake is on (we've all done that) and not burning the drive belt at take off. Clutches being cleaned/serviced as well as a new drive belt will help, as well as a smooth drive line, ie. bearings, grease, etc.
