kimpex pro idler

Anyone have tried kimpex pro idler wheels (5.25") at inner position on a RS venture?

Although I haven't actually installed them there, I did place one in between the cogs and it was a tight fit. They are wider than normal wheels.

Instead, why not wait and order the Excell larger wheels that are a direct replacement:

They're a bit pricier but no mods to do or other parts to buy.

I have used them in the inner positions...they end up grenading much like the stock wheels have. As Mooseman stated, they are wider, but also beefier. Whether that is a positive or a negative in this application...I just don't know.

This year, I installed thinner wheels on the inners, I think they are a knock off of the Skidoo idlers, but made by Kimpex. I got them through Royal Distributing.

If these don't work out, then I think I'm gonna try the old metal idler wheels...and if they don't work out, I'm buying a Skidoo.

Regarding getting the Excell ones, I bet they'd be a difficult find, but you never know, maybe they have a huge stockpile of them in the works, but seeing that they aren't just releasing them yet, I wouldn't bet on it though. See if you can order them now.

I just installed them. I had to grind 1.5 mm off of the spacers that are between the idler and the rail. They are more beefy than stock. I have no idea about reliability. I figured the larger diameter would help with slider wear.

In my opinion, they fail sooner than they should. They'll probably last a season before they warp, and the rubber melts and mushrooms/cracks/splits/breaks up. I used a slang term 'grenading', like a hand grenade breaking apart. At least, that's what happened to me, both on my Nytro and my Vector. Others' results may vary.

Is cracked rails really an issue using larger than stock wheels! Thinking of using larger wheels on 09 vector ltx to help with slider wear.

I haven't seen evidence that upsizing the idler wheels has caused the rails to crack. Just be sure that when you add the larger wheels, change the sliders at the same time.

Thanks Grimm! GF bought the vector and i dont want her or me worrying about changing sliders every week. Want her to jump on and not worry about anything! What do you think of excell's new wheels coming out? Im probably going to go with that.

Thank you for your comments Grimm. Unfortunatly I already have 6 pro idler wheels and each sides of the 2 pivot-arm are machined of -1.5mm and the 4 aluminum spacers are also machined of -1.5mm. I hope I will have more sucess than you.

Kimpex pro idlers

I bought a set of the kimpex pro wheels to use on my 06 Vector. Thought they would help with the slider wear and being 5.250" diameter, wouldn't add too much, being only 1/8" more in dia. than the factory wheels. But like everyone else, have found they are very wide, which would not be an issue on the outside of the rail but very tight on the inside between the lugs; in addition the wider bearing on this wheel would move the wheel even closer to the inner lugs. I would rather not alter the mounts to center the wheels unless I knew they were going to be better, also even at that, they wouldn't leave much clearance on each side sitting between the lugs because their about 1/8" wider.

So I thought if I could find a standard 5.250" dia. wheel with the narrow 6005rs bearings I would put two of them on the inside of the slider rail and use the wider kimex pro wheels outside the rail, but so far have not been able to find that combination. most wheels have the wider bearings, and 5-1/4" diameter is not the most common wheel out there. I did have some old info on Pioneer Motorsport co. that was making a wheel lowering kit, not sure if it was for these wheels (attached to the slider rail) but anyway couldn't find the kit on their sight. So for right now, I'm still looking. If anyone knows of a 5-1/4" diameter wheel with the 6005rs bearing, please let me know.

Oh I'm still happy with the Kimpex idlers. They are still much better than the smaller stockers. I'd rather change a pair of Kimpex idler wheels once a year versus changing the sliders 4 times a season + a pair of stock idlers.

The wheels you mentioned that you got from Royal Distributing; are they 5-1/4" diameter? I'm going to search their site as well, in the mean time.
