klim F4 frustrations

so this is my first season riding an open face helmet and so far I cant seem to dial in the fit. im wearing the klim F4 helmet and started the season with a set of spy targa goggles. on my first ride I got mild frostbite around the corner of my eyes. I then upgraded my balaclava to a klim covert. this partially solved the issue, but I was getting a lot of draft around my nose and now I was fogging the goggles every time I would stop for more the 30 seconds and then the fog would freeze. I then was told I should try snocross goggles and that this should help eliminate the draft issues. I then purchased a pair of scott pro air goggles. these still allow significant airflow through the nose area again causing frost bite (not my season!). now the pro air did come with a nose shield, but the thing sticks about 3 inches off the front of the goggles and doesn't fit inside the helmet. im also fogging/freezing with any type of aggressive riding or sitting for short periods. thoughts? recommendations??? at this point I feel committed to the helmet and want to make it work....just need to find the setup that works I guess.

on a side note (that might also be part of the issue) im riding a 2013 nytro XTX with the stock low windshield. this is also my first "new" sled. im coming off of a 2002 srx. this is a totally different ride then im used to. I feel as if the current low windshield is pushing all the air flow right into my chest and chin. I also have had to add mitts to the handlebars as the warmers cant keep up with the wind flowing around the hand guards. im curious if anyone else has had this issue and what they did to solve it. my thoughts were a medium windshield? I realize that this part should probably be in the nitro discussion area, but thought it best to only create one new thread and thought I would get more response here.

I'm on an '09 XTX w/low windshield, I wear a klim f4 and dragon goggles, great fit!
The biggest thing is to make sure you have a good seal between helmet and goggles.

If you look in yamaha accessories catalog there is fan that you mount on the goggles. My wife purchased one of these for me the other day I had to go out when it was like 35 below to help in rescue an I had no problem with fogging.but I also have the 509 goggles too. The fan is made by 509 hope this helps.

from what you are saying, there are a few things to make your rides more enjoyable.
1. Yamaheaters with boost and thumb boost. Not overly cheap, but warm hands make a world of difference.

2. look into a no fog brand of balaclava, or something similar that will direct your breath down and out of the helmet. Part of your fogging problem is the steam from your breath rising into the lower vents of the goggles. This will also keep your nose warmer as the neoprene material is much more windproof. I have this setup in a 509 helmet and can sit around without fogging easily, unless I am stuck or really breathing hard.

3. The goggle fan is nice and helps when the breath deflector can't keep the steam away from your goggles, or you start sweating. It is actually made by habervision, but 509 sells it customized for their goggles a bit. I am sure there are other retailers too. IMO try the two things above before buying this as it is more of a band-aid than a true fix.

4. the windshield does tend to send the air at your upper chest/chin depending on your height, and could lead to some of your frostbite problems. Changing to a medium windshield, or one with more of a lip at the top will help, as will a good fit between your balaclava/helmet/goggles. These work as a system and are only as good as the weakest link.

buy arctic baclava get the best fitting goggles, tape up some of the holes, had one for 3 years and no problems, before what i said i was ready to give it away.

I have this helmet too .
I have my breath deflector in with 509 goggles , the goggles fit nice around the breath box and fit flat on your face . Mine never fog up!!!
The biggest thing is to make sure your googles are right on your face and have the breath box in place

X2 on the Klim "Artic" Balaclava. As for goggles, look into Smith Optics "Fuel" series, as they have much larger foam coverage area. I also experienced some mild frostbite this year wearing a different balaclava and goggle. Went to the Klim Artic/Smith Optics Fuel combination and have stayed warm with no fogging issues whatsoever. Only complaint is that the balaclava collects your breath condensation at the bottom of the nose shield (which actually terminates just below your mouth) and freezes up at the end nose shield. You don't notice it all when riding, but it's something that has to be cleaned and dried out after use.

Trying to aviod the large cost of yamaheaters....has anyone tried the hangguard flairs that yamaha sells? does this help with warm hands?

Another goggle with oversized foam (if you can find them) is the Scott "Voltage" series. The one pictured below is an OTG goggle, but they come in the standard variety too, and the nose guard and breath deflector are removable as well.

i run klim f4 helmet with breath box with 509 aviators and the klim arctic(for cold days) and the klim covert(for warmer days) balaclava and have no problems with fogging or freezing. I have tried the new klim radius goggles and i don't like how they fit in the helmet and i get alot of fogging when ridding

The SPY Targas are not very good for snow. The SPY Blizzards were very good, but don't think they make them any more. personally I don't think any of the Scott goggles are in the same class. I have several of them.

Nowadays there are even better options from 509 and other manufacturers. They not only need to fit the helmet, but also your face.

I would go to a store that has a great selection and try as many as you can on. Pay attention to how it feels, how it fits you, and how it fits the helmet. You may have to go to several stores.

I use my 509 Aviators with my Klim F4 Fits great. I also installed the liner in the helmet for extreme cold with my Klim artic head sock lol

Do they help ? sure just like putting a bandaid on cancer. the only fix for your hands is rocks yamaheaters they work wonders you will be glad you spent the money. when i had my 07 i spent more then the cost of yamaheaters on all the diffrent wind blockers and they either barely helped or madre ridding impossible. then i bought the yamaheaters kinda paid for them twice by tring to not buy them and i wondered why i didnt do it earlier problem solved period. where is the rock rules emoticon???
