Klim Yamaha Jackets - Are they warm enough for Manitoba

Geee... This isn't as positive as I was hoping for. I was expecting to hear everybody saying its warm etc. Lets see what others will have to say.

Yamaha Klim

I just bought the entire suit including boots and gloves.
I think I will have to use good base layers etc when -30 but at that temp I am creating huge windchill regardless.
I'll let you know if we ever get cold weather and snow around here. All I can do is look at my sled and new gear for what looks like at least another month!

Thanks alsops. Did you get the Klim base and mid layer too?'

Where did you buy it and what did you pay?

I noticed your from the Winnipeg area? What trails to you ride?

I usually just have my base layer. Only if it gets really cold will I throw a mid layer on. I don't think you will be disapointed.

I just bought these also. Have the mid level fleece, and underarmor for the base. Hope it works for the price. I see that Highlands and Richs by me have it the cheapest. My concern is that in one of the recent maganzines it had Klim listed as breathable, and water proof, but not windproof like some of the others. Which could be why some say they are getting cold, and why you might need their thick fleece mid to help block the cold. Don't know how true it is but a little FYI

I don't think you will be disappointed you just may have to wear another layer underneath than you are used to but it cancels out with the thinness of the jacket so you wont notice bulkiness. Which I like better anyway b/c you would be surprised how little you have to wear sometimes and its nice not to have a big bulky jacket all of the time and even with insulation the klimate jacket is thin and nice. You bought the one Klim jacket that does have some insulation so that will help, the tog line like I have is just a shell.

Sheet not sure which jacket they tested but I can tell you my tog bibs and pants are windproof and waterproof. I know the first week I had them i was cold but it takes a few trips to real nail down your under layers for varying temps. With the Klim stuff you are paying for that ultra tech, windproof, waterproof layer and not warmth as much I would have to say. I am sure other jackets are catching up but from a technical standpoint but all the zippers are completely sealed and function without any problem even in the coldest stuff. Most of all for me after trying on and using a bunch of jackets is the damn thing fits me right! With the under skirt buttoned the jacket never rides up, I never have to mess with it and I am wearing a tek-vest underneath.

Plus I can truly say they are the best company I have ever dealt with in customer service. I had an early pair of tog bibs from like 99 or so. Last summer I sent them in b/c I felt a little damp in my front kangaroo pouch area. They sent me brand new 2008 tog bibs free b/c they tested the old ones and they had a leak or the material had broken down enough it was letting moisture in. No questions asked besides some sort of receipt or proof of where you bought them. So I got $400 bibs for the cost of shipping my old ones back which were 8 years old.

Wow! That's pretty cool. I've never checked out the warranty stuff on the Klim, is it lifetime for clothing?

Yup lifetime minus the standard legal stuff of you ripping a hole in it from a suspension bolt or something crazy...

Klim® products are fully warranted to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product. This warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, improper care, negligence, normal wear and tear, or the natural breakdown of colors and materials over extended time and use.

Even after extended use, if a product fails due to a manufacturing or material defect we will repair the product without charge, or replace it, at our discretion. Damage not covered under warranty may be repaired for a reasonable rate and a fee will be charged for return shipping.

And it's not a fluke thing either my buddy did the same thing with his bibs. They do some sort of special waterproof testing when you send them back and if they fail the test they ship you new ones. If they pass the test they ship them back and you are out the cost for shipping them there but at least you know they are still waterproof as well. I am sure most companies have this legal stuff there but this is one of the few companies I have dealt with that they will actually side with you most of the time and ship you new. I mean basically I paid couple hundred bucks for the bibs and have gotten 2 new pair over the course of 8 years. I ripped my tog gloves as well and shipped them back and even though it says they will fix them for a fee they did it for free and shipped them back. It's professionally done and I havent had any issues with it since.

I can tell you its crazy the diff in the technical stuff of the new bibs versus the old ones. Just from years of listening to what guys want they tweaked little things here and there that make a difference. Same with the jacket you dont realize how tech and functional it is until you try on another jacket.

**edit** I meant to add the link to the warranty page it explains a lot. Also boots are only a year but I wear HMK's so I have never tested their boots.

X2

I bought in to the hype last year and got myself the Valdez parka, Tog bibs, Radium GTX boots, and all the base and mid layers, I will say it did take me a few rides to figure out the best combo for the weather but after that I couldn't be happier. I really like the Everest mid layers, they are the best for the cold. The Inferno is good for 20-40 temps, but dose not provide enough warmth for the deep cold. I have had excellent luck with the warranty, I had a draw string fail on a set of Klimate glove 3 years ago and they sent me a brand new pair. Last year my F4 helmet lost one of the fins on the back and they sent a new one out no charge. I have Klim from head to toe literally! There socks are even a great product, I NEVER got a single bit wet/damp last year no matter how agressive we rode, the stuff really pulls moisture away from your body, when I get back to the cabin my boots and base layers are dry to the touch, my old gear would have been next to the heater/fire and I would be riding with my 2nd set of boot liners the next day while my first set was on the boot dryer. I no longer need that boot dryer at all. I think I will be buying those Summit gloves, I tried a pair on at my dealer and I must say they are the nicest gloves I have ever put on period, but they should for 169 greenbacks. Sorry if I sound like a Klim salesman but the stuff plain rocks in my book.

I looked over the Klim stuff this year, I have to say that it is great stuff, but the new FXR Adrenaline suit is just as good for the money. But is you must go Klim, Go with the Valdees high end line up.

Note: I have had the FRX Adrenaline suit for 3 seasons now and I have never been cold or wet and I ride 4000Kms a year.

You should be all set for gear, for a long time, sounds like you did it first class. ;)!

Warmest stuff i've ever had was street clothes in the old Made In USA - Arctic Cat suits with zip out jacket liners.

Old thread ......but That old Cat stuff was top of the line. I think made by Newman Enterprises in Northern,Mn. I had some of it too.

Now Arctic Cat owns Motorfist.

Might as well keep this going.

I road with Klim gear for 4 seasons. Sold my Klimate Parka as I was cold in it with a merino wool and a thin fleece. Bought the Keweenah and was better for sure..but still got cold last yr in Northern Gaspe, Quebec.

Ended up losing 65 lbs recently..and all Klim gear was too big. Sold it and bought brand new Keweenah bibs and parka a size smaller. Got it from Fortnine..tried it on...ja ket was great but waay too tight in front of shoulders. WTF? Ended up sending it all back to FortNine (great return policy and no charge shipping).

Ended up buying a new Motorfist Carbide suit. Did a lot of research...really like the E-Vent technology and has the Gold Primaloft insulation with removable liner. Nice thick material...long snowflap..lots of pockets. Hopefully it lives up to its reputation....I figure if Louis Skebo and Kealey endorse it...should be good...lol
