Looking for info or advice on doing a loop around Lake Superior. I have all the info I need on the UP portion. Looking for tips on Minn. and Canada. Any help would be great!!!
Never did the loop myself. I can point out one bad spot and that is ThunderBay Ontario. Last year the local club and area was shut down. It looks again like its shutdown again this year.
Doesn't mean you can't get through but the city is for the most part closed to snowmobiles. There is no marked or groomed trails around it. Best bet is to find someone who lives and rides there to guide you. Humping the ditches will be the best bet.
There is one guy on this site that lives around there he maybe able to help. Mikey I think is his handle.
It will definatly be tough as there is no trail from nipigon ontario to grand marais minnesota There hasnt been a trail in a number of years so the one that was cut it pretty well grown over.
We do ride from thunder bay to nipigon alot but its all ditch banging along the highway or north along the pipeline. Not at all groomed or marked and the north shore of lake superior is a very remote and hospitable place as there are not alot of towns along the way cellular service is few and far between. River crossings with out bridges
I hate to say this but you depending on your group size will prolly want to bypass thunder bay completely. I believe there is a towing company that will take your sleds and bring them to grand marais from nipigon.
I am not saying it cant be done but I would hate to tell someone "its easy go do it " and problems happen. The section between nipigon and thunder bay usually takes us anywhere from 3-4 hours All of my group ride sno-x sleds and it is very challangeing and quite exausting. I myself had to put Polaris sno-x suspension (front and rear) in my RX just to keep up with them.
