I have an Apex RTX...too nice of a sled to bang around here early and late in the season, when I like to take my first and last rides of the season when no one else (read: smart enough to stay home) is out.

Therefore, I want a Ski Doo REV 550 fan...something light and cheap, but nimble and quick enough for local riding...and rider forward seating (rules out older Yamaha 2-stroke, which would otherwise be my 1st choice).

Also, its nice to have a backup sled and one for friends to ride with who don't own a sled.

I know nothing about fan cooled sleds other than the fact that they exist. Well, I do know they are slower (don't care), but that's about it. The main thing I want to know is...how long do these fan cooled sleds last?

Other things I would like to know: can they still be ridden above freezing w/o them getting too hot? How fast is a 550 fan Ski Doo? Gas mileage?

Any help, I would appreciate it. I want an unbiased, objective opinion, which is why I am here and not dootalk.

The 550 is a good sled . The fan cooled motor will usually last longer than a liqiud cooled . A fan can be run at 90*f but will be a whole lot rich . Snowjet had a wheel setup that they rode on the beaches in california in the early 70's .
