Has anyone tried one of these mounted on a sled? Is it possible to charge the phone while its mounted in the case?
Is it even possible to use the iphone as a gps for sled use?

The problem I've always run into with using a phone for your GPS was the coverage areas. If you can Keep power to it, and keep it warm enough that is battle #1. Battle #2 is getting coverage, and hoping it doesn't drop out on you. They don't work the same as a regular GPS from my experience

I have the Lifeproof case on my iphone5 and have the handlebar mount on my sled. The mount is pretty solid, and it has a locking feature that locks your phone into it. The handlebar mount is sturdy and you can angle the mount so that you can even use your phone to film your ride while its in the mount. You can both charge and have headphones plugged into the phone while it is in the mount. Super simple to clip on and off if you want to use it on a bike or quad as well. IMHO it was a solid investment... but as for GPS, it doesn't really work in the trail because of low signal and the fact that the map just shows you in the middle of a forest, not on a proper road.

I see. Thanks for your replies. Guess I'll leave it at home.
I believe there are interference problems between phones and the avalanche beacon.. So it might be wise to leave the phone home/ or atleast shut it off while riding.

One thing a GPS can do is show you gas and restaurant directions and all the other places on there and how far they are from your location in the middle of that forest or on the trail.
