I installed some new Limiter straps from a 2013 Nytro on my 2009 after discovering one broken, rode for a couple hundred miles and yet again I have one broken, and one hanging on by a thread. I was looking for some perm fix ideas? Thanks in advance

Do a search for 'xtx limiter straps torn' ...it's 12 pages of reading on what you are dealing with. Doubling up the straps is a great fix (see pic that I stole from the thread). I used bailer belt and cut out two straps from the roll of belt (found at tractor supply store).

Thanks, I found that thread and read it. I was having trouble getting the search engine to find it for some reason. I knew mine couldn't be the only ones. I think track tension might be playing into mine as well, as they are breaking in the middle

I was having the same problem with my straps. the tech at Revit up motor sports gave me a good tech tip
try to start the life of the strap towards the back of the sled when you install it I bent my straps for a few days
before I installed them. when I put them in I kept pulling them towards the rear , then I the first and second ride
I would pull over from time to time and use my fist to hit them back to keep them tight . I went through 4 pairs.
he was right . plus I installed the bottom bolts with the nuts facing the back. it works he was right. hope this helps.

Tried that fix and lost another set. I am wondering if it has anything to do with my center shock. I had to purchase a new rear shock, and when I did it was valved for my weight 230, but the center shock is still stock as far as I know. would tightening the spring help with this maybe? or should I just get it re done? I plan on getting the fronts and center done this summer but im trying to make it thru the rest of the season without tearing the skid out. Cause this summer im doing new track, sliders, marginal snow kit, and all new bearings. any other ideas?

Thanks guys

I was not having the problem with the straps breaking in the middle . mine were breaking at the bottom . but I did tighten up the spring on the center shock. it rides a lot more harsh now , looks like a re valve this summer :yam:

What I do is lube the insides of the straps with silglide (silcone based grease) where they wrap around the shafts.
This allows the straps to rotate on the shaft(s) as the skid compresses and helps prevent them from forming a tight kink in the middle.
I've been doing this for years and have never broken a strap! Best of all it's a cheap/easy fix ;)!

I snaped one last year and made one of my own. It lasted about 5 minutes. bought another one from yamaha and doubled them up like kkraus did(going off memory but I think that's who did it) and so far so good. No real signs of wear. they've always got a bit of a curve to the back.

Just an update, I have over 10500 miles on my XTX now with my double up strap fix and they still look like new!

Thanks for the help guys, maybe I didn't do the system quite right, I will try again. I also noticed that the spacer between the two straps is slightly folded on one side. would it help to replace this to keep a more even distance between the straps? I was going to use a piece of hose and replace the original one. I may try greasing the shaft, but I thought that the rotation was part of the probmem? I'll let you guys know what I find. Thanks

redid the straps a second time, doubled up with an old strap that already had a curve to it. I used Baler belt and the old strap both had a curve, pointed it back and zip tied the two together, went 60 plus miles on icy trails riding double with no problems. will continue to monitor.
