Had a weird thing happen with my 2014 xtx today while I popped her in reverse it clicked into place then started flashing and the sled went into limp mode, wouldn’t pop out or move. I solved the problem by turning the machine off and back on and tested it again with no problems.
Anyone, run into or heard of this problem, wonder if it’s a precursor to a failing part or just a phantom menace .lol. Tnks for the help biyyyzz.

Very common issue. It does that when it has problems shifting into reverse. Try getting off the sled and lifting the rear of the sled. Just look at the FAQ's for reverse issues. I have found that adjusting the chain on the loose side helps it shift. Could also be the belt.

Even adjusted will happen sometimes. Not as often though if chaincase and belt height are adjusted properly. Usually don't need to lift the sled, just rock back and forth a little so the gears line up better and try it again. The light flashing is telling u it is not shifted in yet, if it goes in then the light stays steady.

Kool, Tnks for all the help after reading up on the info I believe the problem was that she was still in high idle as I only let her warmup for a cpl minutes before moving into reverse. I’m gonna have to buy a Manuel and check my track and chain case tension. Geeezz had no idea these sleds had such a problems guess even the best have their quirks.lol.
Cheers biiyzz.

Oh yeah, you need to let the sled idle down to have a better chance of a successful reverse engagement. G.B.

You don't need to buy a manual. Free one is available here.

And yeah, definitely need to let it idle down and make sure the idle is adjusted properly.

Well I must say a very big thank you to everyone that makes this form so awsome for lack of a better term.lol.
I looked over the sled today which I feel stupid for not doing before 400kms into the season and then relying on the Yamaha tec too ensure all was well.
What I found was a belt with 2cracks in it, I don’t now how it didn’t blow apart and the top bearing was almost totally dry. The bottom bearing wasn’t as bad with still a little bite of grease and I made sure not to overpack the bearings.
I drained the chain case to inspect the other 2bearings, but do they require the white grease as well ?
The top bearing has none but looks like the gear fluid is lubricating it, I haven’t looked at the bottom one but figure it’s lubricated from the gear oil.
Am I correct with thinking not too grease the chain case bearings ?
ThNks again for the help ,man it sure saved my #*$&@ especially since I ride alone all the time in the boonies.
Cheers.

The chaincase side bearings are lubed by the oil so no grease required. It's a good idea to clean out and repack the clutch side bearings each season. I have 14k km on the original bearings.

This a so easy to do and you should do it at the end of the season before you park your sled for the summer not in the fall. That way if there is any moisture in the bearing it wont be rusting away over the summer. G.B.
