Knowing that the nytro tends to throw a lot of snow and ice from the back that seems to completely miss the snowflap, if the snowflap was longer wouldn't more snow reach the cooler and less get thrown out the back resulting in better cooling in icy, low snow conditions. I know people that will not even ride anywhere close to the back of me when riding because the sled throws anything that is loose on the trail straight back. I thought of the idea of getting a snowflap like an arctic cat sno pro 600 flap that is plenty longer but still not stiff so that it wouldn't get the sled stuck in powder. Has anyone ever experimented with this idea? Any ideas or opinions are welcome.
Snow flaps do work good on most sleds to help cooling but I think the problem with the Nytro cooling is just the complete design. I dont think It will make much difference since there is no rear cooler. It may get a little more to the front but I don't think it would be enough to make a difference. A longer snowflap is nice though and wouldnt hurt anything. I had to pull a ski doo out last year and one of the climbs we had to hook another sled to the front of mine. I instantly fell in love with his long snowflap.

I was thinking of putting the skinz snowflap on because it is very similar to the race sled flaps except dont say "arctic cat" or "Ski doo" across the back. http://www.skinzprotectivegear.com/snow ... flaps.html
Anyone tried one on their nytro?

Add a MTX cooler in the tunnel and you can run all summer..

Has anyone tried Engine Ice? If so does it work?

Answer to original question is yes, a longer flap will help keep these sleds cooler. Keeps more snow and ice spinning around in the tunnel. Larger and added on rear coolers work great too.
As Apex 06 said, one easy trick to stay cooler is a proper 50/50 mix. Some sleds come from factory 100% antifreeze and don't dissipate the heat well. Another good option is Water Wetter. It's easy to use as you just drain done cooland out and pour the Water Wetter into your reservoir.
I've researched Engine Ice and spoke with some guys who have experience with it. It works exceptionally well when used properly. It is a coolant replacement. You drain and flush your system and then add a couple bottles of straight Engine Ice in. Nothing else goes in there. It also is not an additive -- it a stand alone product to replace your coolant. But the stuff works good I guess.
I myself just use Water Wetter mixed in my coolant. My temp light never comes on.

How much of the water wetter do you add?

I added the whole bottle to mine. Some only add a half of a bottle. The fear with Water Wetter is that it will freeze, it's like water, so you still have to be sure you have enough freeze protection. But it's usually not an issue with these Yamahas, which have too much antifreeze in there. So I'd add a the whole bottle, but just an FYI to everyone.

I'll check that out! The reason I'm asking is because I saw a post on here saying that the cooler these engines run the better the hp numbers were... So I'm thinking of engine ice or water wetter and maybe a cooler thermostat if I can find one.. I looked on the mpi site but couldn't find it.

Keep in mind also (not sure on Nytros) that if your engine is getting hot your slides are too. So if you are used to checking/smelling slides the same time your light comes on and you aren't diligent with checking your slides you should be sure to do that. Or have a cure for that as well (scratchers, larger wheels etc.)
As far the Original problem- it may work, just be very careful if you ever back off the trailer or back up on the trail, again not sure how snowflap coverage is on nytros- but on my attak I have to check the flap everytime the reverse goes on...

I was having trouble with overheating at first so I bled the system by raising the front end and letting it run without the rad cap... Whatever leaked out I topped off with 50/50 mix and never saw the light come back on... I'm just curious about keeping it cooler to make it run stronger.

I saw the heat light quite often, then I mixed my coolant 60/40, added a bottle of water wetter, and added the MTX cooler. Never saw it again. It was kinda a pain to do all of that, but it was well worth it. Seeing that heat light just ruined my ride when I had to constantly worry about overheating and looking for deep snow.
Another option could be to add some snow throwers on your skis. Help with cooling and hyfax. I posted some pictures of some I made a while back here on TY

Thanks for all the replies. I already am running a 50/50 mix, I just had some problems with overheating in conditions that the guys i was riding with had no problems with their two strokes. I may try ice scratchers this coming season and possibly the longer snowflap (for both other riders' benefits and possibly with overheating).
Just while all you guys are here on this topic has anyone tried simmon's gen 3 skis on their nytro? We currently have dual carbides on the stock skis but the carbides are getting worn and we want more flotation in powder and off trail conditions.
