I wanted to install a longer throttle cable on my RX1M so I tried a 700 MM (2000-2003) cable as suggested elsewhere in this forum. Although this cable is about 3" longer the end that fits into the throttle block does not want to seat properly. All you have to do is compare the two cables side by side to see why. Although the Mtn Max does work I would not consider it safe as there is no way of securing that cable end in the throttle block. I think a Mtn Viper cable will work. It is also about 3" longer and I will simply remove the oil pump cable portion. I'll keep everyone posted.

I talked to my dealer and he had one that was 2" longer on order for me. I cancelled the order as I haven't had any problems with the stock cable and a 2" riser. Make sure you tilt the bars forward far enough

I'll ask him for a part# today.

Go to your local hardware store, buy a brass screw that is the same diameter as the end on your cable, cafefully snip and file off the original end then cut the brass screw (Get a screw that only has threads 1/2 way and use the part that has no threads) to the same length then drill a hole in it just big enough to slide the cable through. Then make sure you use lots of that cream flux for soldering wipe it on the cable and on the brass, slide the cable into the hole and use a soldering torch heat it up and add solder. I have made lots of cables and never had any fail yet.

Well I tried the Mtn Viper throttle cable and it does work.Physically speaking it is about 1.5" longer but because it does not have a rigid 90 degree metal end its effective length is slightly longer still. Its only downfall is once everything is adjusted the adjusting nut is almost at max extension. This is because the cable freelength is slightly longer. Thanks Snowfever for your cable repair tips. I used to do the same thing when I was a mechanic for a large equipment rental company. My problem this time was finding a cable long enough that had the new style end (throttle block end ) that the Viper and RX1 are now using.
