If its an rx1 make sure it has billet carb caps and tee's. You'll be buying them if it doesn't. Caps are close to $200 and tee's are about $50.

Make sure that it doesn't use any coolant or oil. If it uses coolant then the headgasket is probably leaking and will eventually go out. There should be a 50 mikuni jet in the oil feed line to the turbo so that oil doesn't get in the charge tube.

Find out if it has the upgrade rods and low CR pistons. That would be ideal.
if you can, I'd do a cylinder leak down test.
Also run it hard then stop and see how much blow-by your getting out of the breather filter. Just off idle before clutch engagement rpm.
You should get some normal steam rolling out but not blowing out. Give you some insight if they ran it hard with detonation.
Peak at the tunnel charge tube, make sure there isn't stud gouges in it if they ran the track loose and it's studded on the outside belt. Anyleaks will allow the turbo to overspeed and damage the CS.
Take it to a capable mechanic and have the engine leaked down. Test ride the sled and see if you notice the smell of burning oil at all.

do a leakdown on the engine to make sure valves , headgasket , pistons , cylinders are o.k. I did a leakdown on a friends RX-1 with 8,000kms and it only 1-1.5% in all 4 cylinders , I also did a leakdown on another friends Turbo RX-1 that only had 2,000kms on it (1000kms with turbo) and it had 30% leakdown in all 4 cylinders , it turned out all the valves were leaking and let me tell you that cost him a pile of $$$$ . anything over 7-8% suspect a problem .

Wantboost,
Find out how old that system is. Some of the older ones, the turbo mounting plates were prone to cracking due to the heat where the exhaust turbine housing mounts thru the plate (exhaust pipe joint). This will cause a slight exhaust leak, slight loss of back press but it won't hurt the motor or turbo.
No, the turbo won't fall off... And it's fixable.
