Yamaha Nytro MTX
A good friend of mine is selling his 2008 Nytro mtx 153 with 5000 km's and I can get it for $6000 cdn. It is stock except for the Simmons ski's. He cut the stock track down to 1 3/4" because of the common problem that I have read about on here with the Maverick track folding over.

I will be selling my 2005 RMK 700 144" if I buy this sled from him. My riding here in South East Sskatchewan would be a mix of trail and off trail. Probably 50/50. More off trail if the conditions are good. Just wondering if I am going to like this sled and if I need to change up the track. Looking at $1000 for a new track. . What about the front shocks, reading the forums it seems like they are junk. I seen some take off Piggy Backs for sale for a decent price. I think they came off a XTX, Would those be any better.

I think if I got it I would get the Roll over kit and it seems like the Steering relocate is also a good idea. Still have to check with him and see if the ball joints have been updated and if his sub frame is still straight. . I have been thinking about a 4 stroke for a few years and the only ones I will even consider is the Yamaha Nytro or the Polaris FST switch back 144". I found a FST for around the same price but I haven't had a good look at it yet nand don't know the Previous owner. Dealer still has to put it through the shop.

No mods prices seems a bit high. Did he ever comment weather or nor the simmons skis took care of the darting??

The 08 needs a lot of mods to make it fun to ride. I would be looking a 10 or newer.

He said the simmons took care of the darting but makes it hard steering at slow speeds. I guess because of the front end weight maybe and dual carbides. I rode the sled once for about 2 minutes a couple of years back but that was in some good snow in a field . Never tried the sled on the trail. Is the 2010 front end set up like the Skinz upgrade or just a little bit better then the 08's.

Did some looking for a newer Nytro and this is what I found that is still a long drive away to get.
2009 XTX simmons ski's,146 CE 2.5" track, avid drivers, 2 big wheel kit, rox risers and a lefty throttle. 2000 kms. $7200 plus about $400 in fuel for a round trip.

My friends sled is a 2008 MTX with a stock track cut to 1 3/4", I believe MBRP pipe (loud) simmons ski's. 4000kms. $6000 and free delivery if I do the deal quick enough or $400 to go and get it.

Both sleds have the steering issues, both have the same wide tunnel and pack up with snow.

So it's either get one of those and buy the Spindle upbrade that a guy on here has for sale and over summer get a set of air boards or something to better evacuate the snow. Still would need to beef up the sub frame on each one. Cut and modify the tunnel to look more like the newer ones.

Other options are not so good as I would need to come up with more cash to get a new left over 2011 for about $10000 plus tax.

I don't want to insult my friend and lowball a offer of $5500 . I have only given thought about the sled because he wants to get a mtx 162 and boost it. That and everyone says the engines are bullet proof. Just stayed away from Yamaha for the simple fact I couldn't stand the local dealership even though my wife has a 600 SXR that I stretched and was still on the fence about 4 strokes.
Now with a injury to my back I just want to ride and quit wrenching on 2 strokes.
We only ride long track sleds here for the better ride on some of the rough trails and the off chance we stuble across some virgin fields with deep snow.

the 08 is no doubt a good sled but need work to get to where most want it. the rear suspension and front end are not as good as the newer ones. top retail is around 6300, so i dont think you are really getting a bargain on it as it doesnt have any updated (other than pipe). also the stock track is garbage. i didnt realize how bad it was until i bought a CE. like you have said the engine is solid. i purchased a new nytro last year. if i was to do it again i would look for an older one like the 08, but i would make sure it had some of the updates done such as gusseted subframe, rear suspension, front end, new track. all in all im sure you would be happy with the sled and im sure your location plays a factor in your decision, but if you would be willing to look around i bet you could find either an older sled with more aftermarket updates or a newer stock one. the way last winter was and the way this one is looking across the country people arent getting top dollar for their sleds and that is close to what your friend is asking.

Top retail of $6300 is that what they are going for In the States. Seems here most 08's are in the $7000 range for the MTX and the odd 09 XTX for $7000 to $8000 cdn.

If I wait to long then it will be harder to sell my 2005 RMK. Last year we had no season like most but this year we had a 12" dump in 24 hrs and looks like it is here to stay so far. Guys are already riding, on what I don't know because it is like sugar snow with no base to it. Good for guys like me who do the repairs I guess.

Do some more surfing tonight , see what pops up I guess.

Other than a Skinz or Z bros front end and boost, mine had a lot of aftermarket including tunnel and skid and I sold it for $6k.

I guess we are probably $1500 to $2000 more for the sled new here in Canada so that would make sense on the used price difference. It also varies alot from province to province as to what they are going for used. Might have a line on a 2010 XTX with 500 miles on it, 1 3/4" track and trail tank for $8000. The longer I look I will probably talk myself into a new one or just wait another year. Still not sure if we are going to have a season or not just yet. Still to early to tell.

i just picked up an 09 with 3k km on it with a brand new tilt trailer for 6k. The reason I got such a steal is because the seller had to pay child support back pay or he could not get his license and they would take money from his pay cheque. No license for this guy meant no job, which meant he was hooped. He wanted $8500 for the combo and i offered him 5k. I ended up getting a brand new helmet and goggles thrwon in too. I did not feel bad for this guy at all.

Doesn't the xtx have a better front geometry than the mtx?? The biggest thing about the 08-09 mtx is that the stock front and rear suspension suck along with the track.

I am not so convinced that a person needs to deal with the subframe until it bends. Mine is still the original subframe no gussets and never bent. I run over trees with the best of them. That is where I spend 80% of my riding is in the trees. The most important thing is to not dead head your ski on something.

The dartiness only bothers me when heading back to the truck on a super rough trail.

For the riding you are doing I would get the xtx!!

I am never lucky enough to find those deals. Always hear about them. Right place right time.
