Hey guys, I am new to the forum, I have a 1998 vmax 700 that I am looking at selling. I am very interested in purchasing a nytro and have been doing some research on them. There are a couple places that have brand new 2010 for $10,800 but I have also found some good deals on 2008, and 2009 with low kms. I am undecided on whether to go with the yamaha nytro rtx or the mtx, I do a mixture of trail riding and ditch banging, we usually don't get huge amounts of snow. I have read about problems with people having there track rachet, the 2008's not riding to well, and the tunnel icing up, the heated hand grips not working properly. What you guys recommend looking for when looking at these nytros and what would you recommend going with? Im not sure how much of a difference there is between the 08,09 and 10's, thanks for any input.

I have a 2008 nytro and really the only complaints I have about it are that the handwarmers don't work the best and the skis arnt the best either. For the skis i don't see why people need to go out and spend 500 dollars on skis when i shimmed the rubbers and put dually carbides on it and it rails and doesnt dart or track. Other than that it has been way more than I expected and is a total blast to ride. You will not be dissapointed with any kind of nytro that you buy.

get the 2010 instead of the 08 or 09. Even the 2010 you will have to put some bucks into to get it where you want it.

I love my RTX ( 08 ) but I had to do a LOT to get it rideable.

IMO, if I was to get a new sled now and not pay 15k, I would try to get a 2011 left over Apex. Dealer by me has one with zero miles for 12k.

If you are dead set on a nytro, try to get 09 or newer and at teh very least, get aftermarket skis.

First time I rode my sled, it was like driving a tractor trailer.

If your even thinking about an MTX, why not get an XTX? ONe thing I hate about my RTX is no storage. I am patiently waiting for SDR's under tunnel so I can store SOMETHING on the sled.

Sorry I meant I was looking at either and rtx or and xtx. Which is the better of the two?

I bought an 09 xtx. I like the longer track. Bought a yamaheater to fix heated grip problems. I went through the same thoughts you are. Do I buy new used I don't know? If you are buying used do your home work on here about bent subframes. This is the front part of the sled your a arms mount to. When you are looking at these sleds that are used. Look long and hard at where the front shocks are in between the a arms. If they are not centered front to back the subframe may be bent. Then look at the plate between the lower a arm with a large hole cut out of it. Is it perfectly flat or is it wavy? You have to look real close and run your hand over it. Wavy good chance it is bent.Mine was ever so slight couldn't tell til I got it home. It can be fixed but takes some time to do it right. My father in law works at a machine shop straightend mine up gusseted powder coated it is now back together. It only cost me the price of powder coat to fix mine. If you dont have the time to mess with something like this buy new. Or buy used and do your research. I bought used because I had alot of addons I wanted. If I had it to do over I might have gone new. I did learn alot about the sled after tearing it down completely to fix it. Used with anything buyer beware. One man's problem is another man's project.

You can also find a lot of 09-10 with lower miles that already have been modified for better handling (skis/shocks/handwarmers) I got mine tricked out used with 300 miles for 7,500 last year.

Where are you located?

I wouldn't buy a brand new one. I'd look for a good used one that has some good extras on it. Storage, MTX cooler, Anti ratchet drivers, yamaheater, trail trank, better track, studs, skis, windshield, OFT relocate, oilite bushings, revalved shocks...things like that.

Check these ones out. Either one of these would be a GREAT sled, and worlds better than a brand new stock one. They would be worth a road trip.

I am from Ontario Canada, there is a guy about an hour away from my place selling a 2009 nytro xtx, I have talked to him about it and hes a dentist and is getting rid of it due to no time to ride, here is his ad.
2009 Nytro XTX . Fast machine. $2500 upgrades(studs, split rail skis, clutch upgrade (Heel Clicker Clutch System), saddle bags, tank bag) 1600 km. Lots of extras, He also is including snowmobile lift, helmets, intercoms and cover all for $9500. I am thinking of going to check it out, I think the price sounds about right, since in Canada brand new nytros are retailing for $15,000 or do you guys think its still pretty high? Is there anything else I should really be looking for when checking out this sled, thanks a lot for your input,

That sounds like a pretty good deal. Those are like $800 skis, and from what I've read they work extremely well on the nytro.

I think its definitely worth a look.

Let me know if you want to sell the saddlebags, and intercom. Sounds like a pretty fair deal to me. Hopefully you can get it for 9 even or less! All the better!
Good Luck.

RTX Vs XTX

I would go with the XTX. I have an 09 RTX and a 10 XTX, they both have great abilities however for off trail, Backcountry type riding the XTX is definetly the way to go. Upgraded skis, and a Backcountry track will give you the ultimate sled for your needs.

:yam:

your going to spend alot of money to make it handle even close to your 98 sx700. the Nytro was never intended to be a trail machine, so buy according to your needs.
