Ive looked at over 50 threads. Im debting on the ULMER RACING stage 2 and the Speed shop stage 2.

I drive this sled on the trails and ill do some lake drags. Now mods ill have will be propbly just air filters this year and some jetting.

Which one would be better suited for me. I think so far the ULMER racing stage 2 is highly recomended

I have the Ulmer stage 3 for my 05 RX-1 and couldn't be happier.

Well.. on the trail it backshifts better, has less engine braking so it's easier to ride it. It pulls alot harder than it did stock.. escpecially midrange where U need it on the trails (at least I do). For racing, so far i'ts undefeated and I've raced the so-called top dog sleds out there. I've seen 128 on the speedo and it was still going up but ran out of room.
I'm about to add a filter kit also.

I'm also running an Ulmer Racing kit. The stage 3 is awesome for performance in every way.

Off the line it launches as hard as any sled I've been on and it pulls hard all the way up.

My buddy, on his 06 Apex ER, and I have lined up several times and my 05 RX-1 pulls away from him and stays ahead. Typically a good 3-5 sled lengths by 50 mph. The only thing we haven't had a chance to really try is top speed (we've only raced to about 100 mph and I suspect the Apex might have a better top end). His Apex is 100% stock.

On the trail the throttle response is amazing and rpms are only sightly up when cruising. WOT it snaps to 10,200 and stays there every time (perfect backshift and very consistent). The engine braking is slightly reduced (not a problem). Fuel economy seems about the same as stock (probably 1-2 mpg better than the Apex ER).

The only minor issue that I had was the engagement went way up. Stock for some reason my sled always engaged at 4400-4500 rpm (it's supposed to engage at ~3700 rpm) and with the kit it would engage at 4500 but wouldn't move until about 5500-6500 rpm - hard on the belt.

I added two extra washers to the heel and the engagement dropped to 4000 rpm and it starts to move right around there with very light throttle. A normal start it typically sees about 4500 rpm now (same as it was stock).

I suspect there is something slightly different in the geometry in my clutch. Apparently a number of 05 RX-1's sold in Canada had the higher engagement rpm.

I haven't heard of any 04's engaging higher so you should be in good shape for a bolt in and go kit.

I have the CPR air and clutch kit and it pulls hard, from the hole shot through the mid range. Lot more fun to drive in the trails too...
