I have a good mechanical ability, but know little about superchargers. I want the power, but I also will need trail reliability. It's an 07 that a Yamaha dealer did the install of a stage 1 when it had 1000 miles 2 years ago. It now has 1500. The owner says he's selling because he likes his 09 Doo Renegade better. He said he ran the pulleys both ways and is not sure how it's set up now. Said he had someone interested but the battery was a little low and he flooded it so it wouldn't start, then later after the guy left it popped right off. Do they flood easy? How can I tell if it's in good shape? what kind of bad things could have happened to it? I appreciate your advise. I'm not able to comment back often but please give all the advice you can.

It's really hard to say...I'm no expert by any means, the problem is you have limited visibility and ALOT of expensive parts. If one is bad, it can be a major pain.

I love my MPI apex..haven't had any issues since I've owned it. I've never had a problem with flooding...

Talk to the dealer who installed S/C, Does it have head shim? Did they do any engine work? Ask the guy what kind of fuel he used? Then do a comppression test, and a leak down test? Find out which pulley's are on it, so u know the boost he was running. This is where the fuel comes in. Most of all the compression test and leak down will tell the story. If he is unwilling to take it to a dealer for that, have to ask your self why? Hope everything works out for u, boost is awesome.

This may seem a little odd but it helped me a lot.

Find out if the guy is a member here or on another forum you know. If he is , get his handle and review all his posts on the forum.

I did it before buying my Blown RX 1 from Silverbullet on this site. His posts told me a lot about the owner and the sled.

He then told me his dealer who had done the install and gave me the owners name of the dealership to contact.

Talked to the dealer, [Woody], all good there.

Silverbullet and I agreed he would take the sled to the dealer for a check up and tune up. [He had not used it in two years] Dealer called me after servicing the sled and gave it a very clean bill of health.

We met a couple weeks later at Woody's, I gave him the money, loaded the sled and we both went away happy.

Agree completely this also works great when people are selling performance parts, if you search their posts and they had problems or loss of hp etc you know to stay away from the part. I have used this method lots of times.

Other then that take a leak down tester, and compression tester, also a radiator leak down tester.

test the engine all three ways if it holds coolat pressure then the Head gasket is probably good, if the leak down shows well its probably good and finally check the compression to see if they are somewhat even across the board. Not much else you can do besides hope for the best!
