Does anybody know if any aftermarket companies make a grease zerk fitting to fit a Apex speedo bearing on the driver. I know it can be done because Polaris has a grease zerk on the FST with a digital speedo. I feel it really helps to squeeze out that cruddy, muddy snerty grease that accumulates. I've never had this type of bearing failure before when I could grease it. But my 03 RX-1 blew it with 1,500 miles and my Apex one is probably gonna go the same way (unless I take it out, clean it and regrease) It's much easier and faster with a zerk. Please let me know if its made. If it isnt I'm sure a lot of people would buy this kit. I know I would :4STroke:

speedo (drive shaft) bearing service

Sure would be a nice add-on.

I cleaned and re-greased this bearing this past spring-wasn't too bad of a job and gives me piece of mind that it is done and got the moisture out before the summer season-can only guess what would happen if left untouched.

You can add a grease fitting to your stock housing, or a new one. You just have to remember that too much grease will pop out the outer seal. Basically if you make the mod keep it greased.

dont let the fitting on polaris's fool you. thats for the speedo drive. none of the grease gets to the bearing unless they changed it this year.

I take a NEEDLE greaser and gently stick it under the lip of the seal.. and grease it..

Takes less than 30seconds..

My brothers rx warrior has 4500 miles on it and still like new..(due to this)

Polaris has had a grease fitting on the jackshaft bearing, behind the driven clutch for several years, as well as down on the track drive. Never had any issues with my Polaris sleds and these bearings.

bearing

yes poo had these zerk,s but they allso had four small holes in both the jack shaf bearing and the drive shaft bearing to allow grease to enter the bearings. so just adding a zerk would be a waist of time for us. as we dont have holes in the outer race of our bearings.

You shouldn't have to grease that. I had my Nytro apart this summer for a long-track project. In order to swap the track you have to pull the drive shaft. The bearing on the speedo end of the shaft is a sealed unit. Therefore, pumping grease in there isn't going to do you any good. The other manufacturers have a grease zerk there because they run an open bearing.

Maybe your Apex is different, but I wouldn't think so.

I should have clarified that you have to remove the inner seal, and a little grease goes a long way, just enough to flush any water out.

You are better off pulling the seal and inspecting it in the fall, at the very least.

I would agree that an inpsection is a good idea. The seal could have gone to hell, and you would end up with a failed bearing.

Inspect/clean/lubricate in spring not fall

I'd check it out at the end of the riding season rather than waiting for fall-letting moisture sit in a bearing all summer on a sled is no good!!
