Looking for advise / feedback on the Ice Ripper XT track

did you talk to richie rich or cb performance n what they can do on a brand new track? i didnt pay a whole lot more for a brand new 144 from cb at the snow show.
 
I can get one from Tracks USA for $585 plus tax (since they are in MN) and $10 ground shipping for a total cost of $635.

I just looked on Amazon.com and found two available for $576 no tax and free ground shipping.

The one that I can get for $400 looks like new in the pictures that I received and since it is a fellow TY member I feel that I can trust him on the low (less than 300 mi) usage.
 
I just installed one,has to be better than my old ripsaw stock track because of the 240 121" or 256 128" pre-molded studs/stud TIPS ,more rigged LUGS when cold because of studs on a side by side comparo. its going to be better than a new rip-saw i believe...it also says NO STUDDING on the mold of the track.so if you want to stud beware. :winter: :letsnow:
 
Me & my bud are very happy with our "ice-ripper" 128". It weighs the same as 121" ripsaw with 96 studs. Like everone else has said, not as good as studs, but peace of mind knowing i'm not going to throw a stud through heat exchanger. Every track i've changed was because of studs(6 i think). Great all around trail track. Like Knapp says. Pick your place to race...hey i'm a poet! Who knew...

It looks like $575 is about the going price for a new one. If I can get a "like new" one for $400 from a fellow TY member then I can take the $175 that I saved and spend it on some tuner skis!
 
well there you go. I think that there is still wiggle room in the new price but thats just me. if the used one looks good im all for saving a buck my only concern is this my take off track has almost 1000 miles on it and if i wanted to i could say i took it off with zero miles cause there is no way to tell untill it gets some damage.but that is where the trust comes in I guess.
 
Well I bought the used Ice Ripper XT from a fellow TY member and it does look like it has very low miles as described. I installed it about the time that we had the big meltdown here so I did not get to try it until yesterday after we received a couple inches of fresh snow.

I only put on about 40 miles mostly on lakes and as I expected this track is certainly no where near as good as a studded track on ice with a couple of inches of fluffy snow on top. Obviously I did not buy it for ice racing but it did provide a small degree of control on the ice. I was pleased that it was noticeably smoother than my old studded track at high speed on the lake. I'm not sure about any top speed improvement compared to my old studded track but I have heard that it could add a few MPH?

I also rode some on the trails which were not in the best of shape with a marginal base and the track hooked up excellent. I will withhold final judgement for now since I did not get to put enough trail miles on yet. However I suspect that I will like it on groomed trails which is where I do the vast majority of my riding.

They don't work well on lake ice as there's not enough pressure on that small stud. They belong on the trail. If you want to run lake ice you'd be far better off with regular studs. The trail is where the Iceripper shines.
 
Understood. I knew this full well when I bought it. I suspect that I will be very happy on groomed / hard pack trails with the occasional icy corner. Like I said, I will withhold final judgement until I can put on some decent miles on the trails and I have had a chance to alter my riding style slightly which I am sure will happen naturally.

For me the biggest thing is the peace of mind not having to worry about stud tear outs and heat exchanger / exhaust system damage anymore!
 
I have the ice ripper on mine. Sometimes while watching friends be able to punch the throttle and pick the skis up with ease on even the iciest trail or lake I get jealous. Then there are times like last night in my shop where my friend had his mach Z 1000 in there tearing out the skid cause this happened from his studs that I am thankful for having the ice ripper!
