2008 Fx Nytro RTX 40th
Hey guys, right now I'm running an 06' Apex ER and an 08' Nytro RTX on the trails in northern mn. Long story short I'm sick and tired of waiting around all year for snow only to be disappointed year after year, so I'm looking to get set up to ride out west. Do you think I would be better off setting up one of my current sleds or sell and try to buy a used Nytro MTX? What do you guys think?

I'd say it all depends on how much you want to spend and how good of a performing sled you want. For me when it comes to buying a new sled I don't really care what model it is since I'm going to replace the skid, track and front suspension anyways. So at that point really it's only the MTX cooler that you're missing with the RTX vs MTX.

If you wanted a crossover type sled then a set of rail extensions, track and tunnel extension will get you there.

i would take your rtx get a tunnel extension and put a 141 cat float skid under it to make a 144" run a 1.75" or bigger track (anything over 1.75" will require smaller drivers) and love it. i went quit a bit farther with my rtx and did whats in my sig to it over the summer!

You can do a search on here for user "WOLFONE". He converted his RXT to a nasty custom MTX with a S/C. The sled was short lived however due to a riding accident but it would give you some idea of the work invovled in converting an RTX into a mountain sled. You wouldnt have to take it to that extreme but it did show the project from start to finish. He did documented the build well. I believe it was around 2009.

Unless you found a used mtx with all the mods better off just making yours an mtx!!
