Looking for good maps for Northern Michigan ...Planning a trip from Soo Michigan to where ever looking to ride for 2-3 days ..Just looking for suggestions on restaurants, lodging etc... Would like to find a good snowmobile map for Michigan ......Thank You

As far as paper maps any of the gas stations will have a map available. Usually around 4-6 bucks. The U.P. is broken into three main sections, east, central, and western. Just pick up maps as you go. For food, Paradise, has the red flannel inn just in front of the Best Western. Grand Marias has the brewery across the street from the gas station. In Newberry, there's a restaurant at the trai head called Timber Charlies, only ate there once and thought it was pretty good, price was good. Beyond that we just typically eat at the local dinners if we're hungry. I wouldn't worry there's plenty of decent places.

As far as maps go, the Fish Web site isn't bad. It offers the ability to click and "drill down" in areas. In some cases, the site is a little out of date with the current trails but it does give you a good idea.

For current trail maps, try this site. It is maintained by the state of Michigan and the maps are current. You can download the maps in pdf format.

For the eastern peninsula, you should click here for a scanned image of a trail map.

I know last year Fish and Hunt Shop in Curtis, MI had full U.P. maps for sale as well as regional maps. Not sure on the price though. Maybe they'll charge you for one over the phone and mail it to you? Might be worth a shot?

Does the full map show mileage from town to town? We had one at one point and for some reason, I don't remember, we didn't refer to it often. :dunno:

I honestly don't remember if it did or not. I just glanced at it briefly and purchased a regional map.

I just looked at my eastern UP map and it does have a mileage chart on it. It's an older one-not sure if the new maps do though. A couple of other suggestions are: the Soo-Kinross loop. There's a bar (Frank & Tom's...???Can't remember, but do know it's 2 names) and I thought the pizza was very good. How the the brew pub at the Tahquamenon state park-Food is good and it's a pretty cool place. An out of the way place is in Strongs/Ekermans Corner called The Bear Butt. Food was very good along with the service. The Silver Creek Tavern south of Paradise was open last year, but the food was limited.

My map says it about 90 miles (if I'm reading it right...). We stayed at St. Ignace one year when the snow was really good. In my opinion, it's not the greatest town to get in and around. It looks to be around 70 miles from the Soo to Drummond Island. Never rode it, so I can't tell you. I'm not sure of the miles to Marquette, but from the Soo to Seney is about 150 miles, and to Grand Marais is about 118 miles. Not sure of how far you guys want to go. When do you plan on going? Just for comparison, we rode 2 years ago in Seney on St Patricks day and had to wait for it to warm up so the snow would loosen up. Last year, same time, we stayed in Brevort, went to Seney, should have gone to Grand Marais, but didn't and had awsome snow. This is just my 2 cents...I mean 10 cents worth

You will have to be careful with snow conditions riding from the soo to Drummond. You are almost guaranteed good snow if you stay north from the soo and headed west, and the riding is awesome. As someone else said, you could stay in Paradise (See Laurie at the Best Western), and go to the taq. falls brewery. It is really good food and the falls are very cool to see.

It would be a good loop to ride from st. ignace to the soo, to paradise, and back to st. ignace.

Id stay on the north half of the UP better snow. St ignace isnt as snowmobile friendly as other towns eithier is Marqutte you can get to hotels and such but you cant get in the town to go to dinner.

Newberry has (had?) a curfew. To go thru town, you go down an alley. The only turnoff is for gas. Not sure of the curfew times.
