Looking to replace by Micron pipes on my XTX. I built the system from a set that I had laying around, but they didn't hold up to last years miles. I'm looking to replace with an RS-5, Hindle, or??
My question for you is this.. Does everybody think I should look for a muffler for a 1000 cc bike, or are some of you running cans for 600's? Given the rpm differences between bikes and sleds, one might think a 600cc can woud be sufficient?
Post your opinions, input in reguards to size and possible noise level differences between the two classes of pipes. I need to decide pretty soon. Also looking to pick something up if anybody has anything that may interst me..

can`t give advice about what you want to do there...but I can tell you that 600 run much more RPM than the big dogs......600 like 14000 to 16000 RPM...the 1000 are 12000 and some even lower...not sure if this helps you?

Cheers

A. How loud? B. How much? C. Full system? D. Willing to chop stuff? Kind of depends on what you want to listen to all day, what you are willing to do, and what you can get away with. If you start with a Vector header(stock or aftermarket) the exhaust possibilities/configurations are endless.

Fabricating something is the easy part. I've just been browsing what for sale out there for bike style cans, and typically see a larger variety of cans for 600's, and it got me thinknin about size?
I want a deeper tone, noise level isn't a huge priority as long as it isnt "ear-bleeding" loud, and I can still hear the ipod! The Microns that are currently on there are loud, but sound great, and can still be kept pretty quiet when needed for geting in and out of town.
I don't have noise police in Iowa, and most all of my other riding is in the UP, so I'm not too concerned.
I would buy an Excell or ??, but this close to season starting, i should probably watch the $$, so i can afford to ride more. I'm still trying to get the MPI done as well, so...
Just wanted to find out if a pair of 600 cans will work, or if I should stick with somethign designed for the 1000's...?

i installed a carbon fiber hindle on my turbo rx1 and it sounds really good, not loud at all.you can see it in the 4 stroke sled garage forum under rx1 ferns turbo sled or some progress pics.check it out.

I know that the Silencer for a 600RR and 1000 are the same Yosh can. We put a 600 on a buddies of mine and works great.

Physically the same size, but often times the inner core would be smaller for a smaller bike. My hopes are to stay with a twin pipe setup anyway, hopefully that makes it easier to find something. I just don't want to make it too restrictive. If the Nytro motor @ 1050cc turns 9k approx, whats a 600cc motor turn for rpm's and whats the volume of exhaust air in comparison. That's what i'd like to find out.

I was told the bike pipes cannot hold the same heat as the ones that are made specifically for sleds.

herd the same- pipes falling from the high heat from sleds running at higher rpm longer then bikes...

I was trying to find a post on here, but no luck. Anyways, the guy posted a pic of his pipe basically hollowed out from the heat. I believe it was a YOSH

Basically, the shorter the muffler, the louder it's going to be, and 600cc or 1000cc shouldn't make a difference because most manus use the same mufflers for each app. My Yosh is fine, over 4500 kms so far ;)!

I believe i'm that guy. That thread, along with a couple other exhaust threads were deleted from the site. I have read that our machines run hotter than a street bike, but never found any numbers to support that claim. That's why I posted because I knew there are several guys on here running RS-3's and RS-5's with zero issues. A couple guys on here suggested that maybe it was mounted incorrectly, not heat, which is a possibility. When I finally backed Yoshimura into a corner for a response, they said it looked as if I was rear ended. That kind of supports the mounted incorrectly theory. With the outside of the muffler 100% in tact and untouched, plus me being so willing to send it back for inspection, they said send it in and we will repair or replace it. Fingers crossed!

Anyways, I absolutely love the sound, and looks, of the RS-5. It has a smoother exhaust note that is a little higher pitched and not as throaty and raspy as others. Thanks to NyTrOMaNIaC's YouTube videos, I had the cool sled of the group last riding season.

Glad you enjoyed your Yosh last year, gomer, and I hope they take care of you ;)!

Now, I gotta find another one for my MTX SE :-o

Exactly! They are the same muffler, and the pipe that we put on my buddies has 3200 miles with it, and still sounds just like it did when I put it on.
