I just picked a new Cobra track for $275 bucks. I am going to be doing the star suspension relocate. I didn't realize this was a single ply track until after I bought it. Should I sell it or keep it? Would like to stud it, but have reservations being single ply. Looking for your thoughts....

Get used to it! single ply tracks are the new up an coming thing and it is getting harder and harder to find a 2 ply track!

not for sure ,but aren`t most single ply tracks a 2.86 drive pitch? (vs. 2.56 on your nytros`stock ripsaw)

Just use the studs with the larger heads on them designed for the single ply tracks. Also, it seems from everything I've read, that the double backers hold better...especially in the single ply tracks.
I think the single ply tracks got off to a bad start and got a bad name when they first started with the ski doo XP sleds. But I think that is because guys were putting 84 studs in the 800cc sleds per ski doo's recommendations. Thats horribly under-studded. So make sure you put enough studs in, or you'll just wear them out or rip them out.

The Nytro I am pretty sure is 2.52 pitch. Which is what this track is.

Just because it's a new thing does not mean it's better! Fact is 2 ply outlast tracks outlast single ply tracks, just ask the doo boys.. Sadly when you buy new tracks such as the new Ripsaw II which is 2.52" pitch they do not specify it being a single ply unless you carefully research it.. Expect a shortened life expectancy of a single ply if you stud it. Did any of you look at the head size of studs recommended for single ply? Question I have is: how efficient is a 1" lug single ply track with 144 studs 1-1/8"+ large head studs vs. same 2ply track with 144 smaller 7/8" size head studs?

The doo guys, or some of them that are big into racing, will tell you that the larger head diameters are less efficient and slow you down on the top end a bit. But we're talking small amounts here, something a trail rider would never notice, ever.
I agree the single ply tracks are not all that great. I haven't ran one personally so I can't say if its all internet hype or not, but it sounds like they really suck. But as I said above...how much of it is because all those guys were so severely under studding their sleds? I dunno. Put 84 studs in a 150ish horsepower sled then go ride it 1000 miles...people blame the studs for wearing out, or the track for tear outs. I blame lack of studs 1st.
Thats why I switched my doo back to 2.52 pitch drivers and bought a good tough old school track. I KNOW that works.
