Hey guys, I’ve been sledless for 4 years now, 3 kids and built a house, and am looking to get back into it. Had a 40th aniv nytro before. Looking at vipers. I would ride mostly trails but one group I ride with is off trail UP riders so probly ltx or xtx is what I’ll be looking at. Anything I should be looking for or know about these before I dive in? Are first year (14s) ok or should I stick to 15 and up? Are the mpi turbo kits pretty reliable if I decide I need one with some juice. What are the best mods to look for, or trouble spots I should be aware of. Thanks guys pretty excited to get back on a sled this year or next if the right deal doesn’t come along.

On or off trail, get the xtx your arms will thank you, xtx's feel like they have power steering cause of the uncoupled skid but will rail the trail just like ltx or better imo.
Mpi turbo's are super reliable, especially if you do the install and take your time, if going to turbo, stay with a 14 or 15, most 16 and up have the weaker rods, center rod usually exits the block, i have a 15 turbo with zero issues if that tells you anything.
Best N/A modz are a free airbox mod, can and clutch kit, otherwise your getting into turbo territory money wise.

I have both a 14 and 15 xtx's both have been run with mpi stage 1 turbos pushing well over 265 hp. They are reliable the 14 blew due to an afr # (fuel) issue and has been built even badder and has dynoed over 380 hp but not done yet the 15 popped a head gasket but now has arp studs and has gone 1500 trouble free blazing fast miles.

Have an LTX-DX and two XTX's in the family barn, and I loved the LTX until I got my XTX. I thought I would be doing more off trail than I have, but it doesn't matter because the XTX turned out to be an awesome trail sled. I recently went to Canada for a high mile weekend, and took my LTX because of the higher windshield and heated seat, but in the end, I really missed my XTX! If you find a 2014, it should have the Cat skis and be okay, but if you find a later one that still has the Tuners on it, plan on extra money for a new set of skis.

If you want to turbo it you want an early 16 or older. However if you intend to turbo it why not just by a Sidewinder as you would be in it for about the same money. I see that a lot of dealers have new LTX at or just under 10k now. I've never had an issue with mine starting in cold weather. The Viper is the best riding trail sled I have ever been on period. I have a Viper and a Renegade 800 in the garage and haven't started the Doo in two months, in fact I don't think I've even looked at it in a couple months.
