Re: doo or yamaha
Not sure why you would think your post is a problem, the OP is looking for opinions. I looked at the 600 sdi renegade and the 800 the same day as my Attak, nice looking sled but I got a better deal on my Attak(imo).
I have ridden the 1000 gade and it is a nice sled.
mace said:don't want to start a war but if it were me would get a 600 sdi renegade, lighter better milage, better off trail flotation.
was a skidoo guy for 25 years or more and last year went to apex and will not look back, but I trail with very little of trail.
on trail yamaha(bumpy or not)
off trail (meaning no trail ) ski-doo

I ride with a hard core DOO head. He just HAD to go out and buy what he thought was the biggest, baddest DOO out there, a 1000 Renegade. He spent 15k before he ever even started it, bought all kinds of look good stuff, a pipe, clothes to match the sled,etc,etc,etc.... Now he doesn't even like the sled after the first 250 miles!!!LOL LOL LOL!!!
I rode it myself the other night, and yeah, it has nuts, but it felt like I was driving a PANZER!! That thing wouldn't turn if you hooked it to a frieght train! I'll bet we adjusted on the suspension on that turd for 4 hours and couldn't get it much better. He want's my sled.
I also just got my brother in law into sledding because my sister would kill him if he bought a bike!. He really wanted an rx-1 or an attak, but he ended up on a leftover '05 "X" package DOO for $6800.00 I couldn't balk at the deal, but to make a long story short, there are many reasons people buy certain sleds. I have my first Yamaha, after growing up with Cat and DOO, but just because you get a good deal, eventually you'll be hooked by the 4 stroke bug!

Well even though I want the 4-stroke I think that I would have been better off by not checking out this forum. This forum itself has put doubts in my mind when I read threads on track noise & how people can't stand to ride their RS Ventures, numerous discussions about excessive hyfax wear and what you guys do in attempting to remedy this, same thing for skis and steering issues. And then the discussion revolving around Yamaha not taking ownership of these problems - do you people think that reading this forum would generally make someone feel that Yamaha builds a machine that can be backed off the trailer and driven without any problems. Well from someone looking for info and getting ready to purchase it does not. All that has really been said in this thread is that the engine is addictive and some have suggested that the reports of problems are overstated. Well that may be true but the pages & pages of discussion on these issues are not what I would call confidence builders. So convince me otherwise cause I would really like to have a Yammi 4-stroke but so far am still on the fence.
Do you people agree or disagree that this forum would raise these doubts like I am feeling?

I switched from Cat last year and just love this 4-stroke. Would NEVER go back to a 2-stroke again. I have almost 5,000 miles on the original hyfax, and they still look good. When I took delivery of the sled, my dealer switched out the Yamaha mountain skiis for the stock ones and I then put the studboy deuce bars on. Very light steering and it handles great with no darting.
The only issue I have had is the rubber adjuster boot in the suspension. It was still working at the end of last year, but I had it replaced under warranty because the rubber boot had a tear in it.
These sleds put a smile on your face every time you ride it. With 5,000 miles on, I still look forward to my next ride and never think 'I wish I had a different sled'. The mono suspension soaks up bumps unreal, and the motor is addictive ( power, smoothness, and sound). Another thing I noticed about these sleds, is the under-hood area stays so clean. Between trips when checking and cleaning the sled, there is no oil, gas, black residue, and very little belt dust or anything else under the hood. The sled still looks like new because of the build quality of them.
The decision is yours, but if you switch you won't be sorry.

Any public forum you visit people always realish the problems a sled has. Bottom line is people like to complain. I have been wanting to post this for awhile, but sometimes I wonder about people that complain about the little things a sled does, these are not Ferrari's they are sleds. I say shut up and ride!!! I am new to Yami this year I have a 07 RTX and I love it. I will be getting ride of my REV X and buying my wife a Apex. There is alot to be said for peace of mind and riding a Doo two stroke you are riding on borrowed time. I did a ride camparision on the REV and RTX, do a search check it out, I hit all the main points!

If reading these forums creates doubt then dont go to dootalk or arctic chat.....you'll need a straight jacket!! Keep in mind, theres no such thing as the perfect sled but yamaha has made a darn good effort. I buy new every 2 years, and have been riding since the 1970's, my 2006 RTX was my very first yamaha. I bought blind based on hype alone and never regretted it!! After 1 ride I was addicted and was jumping for joy to finally have a sled whos biggest concerns were hyfax wear, handwarmers and idlerwheels.
It would take a damn impressive machine from one of the "other" 3 to pull me away from the current Yamaha sleds.

Safety Sean, you have to keep in mind that not everyone sees the problems posted on this site. In fact, the majority of people have no problems at all. Site members, in general, are perfectionists and are looking to make their sleds even better. I rode 2750 miles on my 06 Attak with no problems. In fact, I have not had a single problem with my last three Yamaha 4-strokes.
A really good video was done by a guy on Doo Talk comparing the Renegade to the Attak. It is fairly unbiased review. You can find it here.

Thanks for the link. This guy has a mileage thread & Phazer Mountain Lite thread going on DooTalk...I think he has posted the Mountain Lite thread over here. Yes he is quite unbiased when he reviews a sled. He has purchased the Mountain Lite as a second machine to his Renegade but from what I am reading the Renegade is now relegated to #2 behind the Yamaha - and this from a high miler in Yellowknife...pretty impressive. Where I am we have quite a bit of deep snow & all my riding is what you guys would consider off-trail as there really are no formal trails where I live. In this machine I would like a 144 as opposed to the 136 but who knows maybe Yammi will take the RS Venture skid and work some majic into it and slip it under the Attak. Having said that I do think that I am coming around on this sled and while it is running a very close second to a Renegade at this point it is gaining...

No problems, glad I could help. You should also read this thread about riding an Attak off trail. Trust the site member Turk on his posts. I've ridden with him and his posts contain no bull.

Thanks once again. I made my decision today. I ran a 60km loop with my 6 year old on my 03 Grand Touring. She alternated from sitting in front & helping with the driving to sitting on the back cuddled into her Dad. Each time we stopped all she could talk about was how much fun it will be when her brother, who is currently 18 months old, is old enough to join us. So the math on that is 1 Dad + 2 kids= RS Venture/GTX. I already like the RS Venture because of the 144" track vs the 136 on the GTX. And then there is the engine, the fit/finish, the nice colors...but there is also the track howl, poor steering, hyfax wear, etc. Decisions, decisions. No rush anyway cuz the move won't be made until next year.
I think I'm going to email the Snowtrax people about the complaints listed on this forum as they picked the RS Venture as Real World Sled of the Year and on yesterdays episode reviewed a RS Venture GT - great accolades once again.
