This weekend I lost all the oil in my chain case. The drain plug was still there (didn't fall off) and there was no oil inside the engine compartment. Doesn't anybody have any ideas where it would have gone or what my problem may be?
I was using Amsoil Chain Case oil. Could this oil have just burned out? I only had a few hundred miles on the Amsoil.
Looking for any suggestions or ideas. I had to cut my trip short because of this "little" problem.

If you've had the chaincase cover off ever, you may have pinched the rubber seal when reinstalling.

But wouldn't there be any oil residue inside around the chain case cover? I had the chaincase cover off about 400 miles ago.
What chain case oil do you use? What's your opinions on the Amsoil chain case oil. Last year I was using the Yamaha brand then I read on the bottle "Do not allow product to Freeze". Something about not allowing to freeze and snowmobiles didn't sound right.
Thanks for you input though!

Won't see any residue, it will just drip out the bottom. Since you don't have an oil slick on the floor of your garage (ie, you would have noticed THAT), it must have come out WHILE RIDING, which means that the pinch is ABOVE the oil level.
As for the type of oil.... any 90 weight gear oil. That includes outboard motor gearcase oil, manual transmission oil, etc. Brand is irrelevant.
Oh, and the freezing point of oil is REALLY REALLY cold. Think hundred or more degrees below the freezing point of water, so no worry.

If it makes you feel any better, I use Amsoil gear lubricant with no problems. I have over 2,500 miles on it with no problems and does not use a drop. I know what you are going through, you first look to blame what has changed. I hope you find the problem. Let us know.
