I have a 17 sidewinder. I’m wondering where to start looking for a short. The fuse blows on the tail light reverse and gauges. Everything looks good at the fuse box wires. Any common areas to look for.

A place to start looking is by removing the fuse block from the mount. Incoming wires under the block have been known to wear through the insulation.

i would do a really quick test and unplug the acessory wire that gets used for your helmet plug or heated seat, its right beside the chain case. see if you still blow a fuse, it can really help narrow down one direction or another. Do you blow the fuse at idle/immediately when turning on the ignition? or is it after the sled starts moving?

I just had the same issue with mine yesterday. Any more input on this?

Try disconnecting taillight (connector should be under seat?). You could also try pulling the gauge, then put it somewhere warm overnight.

It is common to let your heated shield cord short if it hits the running board.

Well went to start mine up today it turned over twice and that’s it. The gauge cluster is dead. I bought my winder November 2016 spring order. 2017 LE. I have never replaced the battery. It’s always been on a tender since I owned it. Guessing it’s time to replace my battery.

Ok found the problem. Instead of telling you what I did I will tell you what not to do!!
If you ever have to disconnect the wire harness and or the visor cord that runs down to the plug cluster by the chain case/ reverse motor , which you have to do to service the chain case, and when you re zip the everything make sure the electrical cables are on the out side of the oil tank breather hose ( facing the side panel) and not on the engine side of the hose so that it can touch the exhaust heat shield when the hose gets warm and sags and the visor cord can touch the heat Sheild and melt and blow the fuse.!!!!
Stupid on my part but an easy fix.
