Those things will run when set up, thats for sure.
Ran 126.3 with ours Sunday.... Should hit 127mph on stock motor, stock fuel mapping.. only geared, clutched, speedtrack and 170 pics. Ran 124 last year with stock track and trail studs....
Having said that, my buddy's APEX would make dog meat of me on hardplack this year.. . most likely, haven't raced but I've rode his APEX... it hauls a$$ to 100mph
Have never been beat on my Firecat in 3000' ..... lost a few short races to a 05 MACH Z last year when I had a trail set up.. MACH Z was running a speed track and pics at the time... Reason we evened the odds this year... owner hasn't shown up to the lake yet L!
that's GREAT!! will be shooting for 127 with mine shorty.... then it goes to D&D to have the fuel remapped, dyno'd to prove the stock HP which "NO ONE" believes us L! and then get their pipe and y pipe on it and re-dyno. Need to get my Buddy's APEX in our 120+mph club...

Hi Fxr ,
How much speed would you guess you pick up by using a that SpeedTrack vs. stock track?
1" is stock right ? :itchy: Thinking of buying one....
Thanks SMEDEN

Actually stock was more like 1 3/4 from back of track to top of lug. The CAMOPLAST speedtrack I'm using this season is supposed to be 1/2" but it also measures 1" from back of track to top of thin rib lug.
To say how much we've gained with the speed track? Can't accurately gauge yet, as it's still stiffer than crap... stretch is no where near out of it after only 3 passes. That and changing from trail studs to pics is another factor... maybe pics in the stock track would have helped? Last years time being 124mph, I would have to guess at 3mph to answer your question..... I know I could pull 127 today just looking at the barometer, to where it was the other day when we were out... 'air' quality 'is' a factor for top end.
Actually most of the local Yamaha guys around our area trail ride with Speedtracks , so I'd say ....sure buy it...

I’m not sure why some people wouldn’t consider it a loss. Probably because everyone hates loosing to an F7. It is a little embarrassing getting beat by a 700 twin. If you loose 2 out of 3, it is a loss. It’s doesn’t matter if you won by 7 lengths the first one and then lost the next two by half a length. All that tells me is that the F7 rider did something wrong the first race and corrected for it the next two. I have both a 2003 F7 and an Apex GT (and a few other sleds). I like the F7 just as much as my GT. I enjoy tuning on the F7 and trail riding the Apex. It doesn’t take much $ to get an F7 to be faster than Apex. I have a lot less invested in my F7 and it walks all over my Apex (for the time being). The F7 a great sled for a tuner. The non-tuners should stick to an Apex. I like the F7 for off trail riding, jumping and racing. The Apex is easier to ride on the trail.
The race conditions shouldn’t matter very much if the F7 is a SnoPro as the two sleds should react about the same to all types of conditions. Hard pack isn’t going to help you any more than it helps him and will probably help him more if he is clutched and you are not. If it is a standard F7 you will have the advantage if the condition you described but he will have the advantage in hard pack.
Was it a 2003 F7? That’s what I have and those are the best year to tune on. They are only about 132-134 hp stock but that goes up pretty fast with a few basic mods and dialing it in. Why did you win by 7 lengths the first time? Did the F7 get a bad holeshot or something? It doesn’t add up (unless he let you when the first time). Did he say if he was pulling on you at all? It sounds to me like he is holding back some yet and didn’t judge it right the first time. Does the guy seem to know what he is doing? I don’t think he is running nitrous, a good tuner with a few mods wouldn’t need nitrous to beat a naturally aspirated Apex.
I wouldn’t say he looked like a fool tuning his sled before a drag race. I’d say he was the smart one and looks like he knows what he is doing. Besides if he’s a fool, then you just got beat by a fool and that is even worse in my mind. After all, he did beat you and the Apex is supposed to be faster. I make adjustments on my sleds before lake racing or trail riding and I don’t think anyone would call me a fool. Any good rider is going to make adjustments for a race. I personally think it’s a good thing to be able to tune a sled to make it faster. Too many people go out and just buy the newest fastest sled and don’t even know how to properly tune it or set it up.
I can probably tell you exactly what he was doing under the hood. He was either changing programs on a Boondocker Box (if he has one of those) or dialing down his fuel pressure but neither of those takes 10 minutes. Did he put the sled on a stand? If he dialed down his fuel pressure, he should have put it on a stand to check pressure at WOT and monitor his temps (if he has gauges). Oh and if he has temp gauges, he may also be running more timing. If he has a fuel restrictor and advanced timing, he would definitely want be running temperature gauges. He might have also adjusted his suspension to get a better holeshot. Then again, are you sure he wasn’t just warming it up? For the F7 to run good, they need to be warmed up really good, a lot more so than other sleds. Did you watch what he did at all? Being that his is a fresh rebuild, he is probably running a little rich before that and needed to dial it down a little.
So you know he is clutched, single pipe (or twins?), fuel restrictor (or Boondocker Box). With proper tuning, that will be enough to run with a stock Apex. If he’s got an 800 or 900, he would beat you by more than 1-3 lengths, unless he was sandbagging.
If you get a chance on your next trip, sneak a picture of his motor and post it and I can tell what everything is. Based off of what is out in the open, we can also get a good idea if he is running any other internal motor mods. Let us know what happens on your next trip.

Fast freek..
I ride with over 4 F7s... ive beaten them all, even moddified...
You act like they cant be beat... Its different drivers on different conditons..
They are fast sleds... and no one is saying different..
the one 05 F7 SP in our group is significantly faster and quicker than the others i ride with.. and gets better gas milage and uses less oil.. He has a timing key, pipe mod, (still waiting for D@D y pipe) and D@D clutching..... I pull him 2 sled lenghts out of the hole every time..

I’m trying to tell it how it is. T Jockey was getting beat by 2-3 lengths, I figured he was stock. And he didn’t say anything about himself being modified at all. So I’m assuming a stock Apex against a slightly modified F7. A properly tuned F7 with a fuel restrictor, timing key, single pipe, and clutch kit will run with a stock Apex and trade wins all day long. The clutch setup is probably the most important. F7s are lighter, have only a little less hp and the narrower 13.5 inch track spins with less air resistance. Also the 2003s were the best to tune on and are usually the fastest when properly tuned. 2 or 3 lengths can easily be made up by proper tuning and set up. It sounded to me like T Jockey wanted to figure out what has been done to his buddies F7.
I’m not saying an F7 can’t be beat. Stock for stock my money is on an Apex. But it’s usually a good race against a slightly modified F7. I’m waiting til my GT is fully broke in before doing anything to it. I like to see how much of a difference each modification makes. I want to get my GT to run faster than my F7 because too many F7 owners have a similar set up to my F7 and I don’t want to get beat on my GT. I’m thinking exhaust, clutching and some fuel remapping to start off with and see where that puts me.
Hopefully T Jockey will be able to sneak a pic of the F7s motor and we’ll see what’s all done to it.

I agree a very close. race.. TILL you add a good clutch kit to the apex.. than forget it..
actually the F7 and apex are very close in hp numbers... several F7 owners have had there sleds dynoed at close to or over 150hp..
I know BIkeman has dyned his F7 with all the mods he sells at close to 160hp..
