Well after putting on 150 miles on my new attak (just got it last week) That deafining loud humming at low rpm. I found that my hose from the bottom of crankcase was not attached to the air box, That helped alot!! FYI, Not having alot of miles on this engine youall think i still should change the oil before putting it away or just leave it till i get the 500 on her? Doesnt look like gonna be ridin much more. Thanx

I would make sure your season is done and change the oil. You don't want it sitting all summer with old oil. That way your ready to go next year and you also don't have to change it at the 500 mark.

After reading this university paper on engine break-in:

http://www.eng.wayne.edu/page.php?id=759.

I changed the oil on my new 07 Attak after an hour of riding. This article shows that your oil has max contaminants after the first hour on a new engine, is 50% broken in after 3.5 hours, and has reached a steady-state of wear after 3.5 hours of run time which remains constant from 3.5 hours on to the end of life of the engine.

I would just leave the oil in there and change it next year. If you change it this year and leave it sit with new oil, you will have to change it before you ride next year because over time I would think that oil would break down.

Oil can get contaminated from gas blow by and moisture. It can become acidic so you should always change it before you store it.

I'm going to change the oil and filter at the end of this season and then just change the oil at the beginning of next season. This way the old oil is out and if the new oil does tend to break down over the summer it will be replaced before my first ride next year. What do you guys think?

I changed filter/oil @ 150 miles (early this season). Put another 800 on it and changing both again, then putting her away for the summer. I don't plan on changing out my new oil next fall...

If you change the oil at the end of the season there is no need to change the oil at the beginning of the season next year. Contaminants get into the oil from blow by of raw fuel and water vapor. A lot of fuel gets past the rings during starting and warm up. At this point most engines run very rich and fuel doesn't vaporize well in a cold engine. Condensation, the natural result of combustion, is washed down through the cylinders and into the oil. Especially if you’re in a cold climate and your EFI system goes rich on cold start to dump more fuel, trust me, some ends up in the crank case. The gas and water combined contaminate your oil create a high pH level (pH = acid). The oil will not break down just sitting in the crank case.

How many of you do the things you suggest to your other vehicles, including your car or truck? Most of you get a new sled every 4 to 6 thousand miles, and put over 100,000 on your truck.

??? I do what I say.
Change the oil at the end of my season.
Treat the gas... drain the bowls.
That's it.
I live in Florida so my weed-eater runs all year.

I am going to change my oil before I store it for the summer but, why do they say change your oil every 3000mi or 3 months in automobiles? I realize there are better oils now days

On the new vehicle's (Chevy Trailblazer for example) the oil change light comes on not every 3,000 miles but the computer uses a formula of rpm x engine heat and hours run to calculate the change interval. As far as 100,000 miles on a vehicle..... if its a vehicle you’re using for transportation, car or truck, you don’t let it sit for 6 months without an oil change like your sled will be when stored. Oil becomes acidic and can actually etch the bearings and crank over time depending on the amount of PH that has accumulated in the oil from the combustion process. Its cheap insurance to change your oil.
