Last year towards the end of the season I blew 2 belts within about 200 miles of each other. Both were not brand new but were not beat or anything. This season I decided to buy a brand new belt hoping that might be the issue and I blew it within 100 miles. When i blew the belt i instantly felt the clutches to see if they were hot. The secondary was fine and the outer sheave of the primary was fine, however the inside sheave of the primary was way too hot. Today I checked alignment of the clutches on the backfaces per the manual and it is within specification. I also checked the free play of the secondary and that is within specification too. Any ideas what can be causing all of the heat to cause premature belt failure? I bought the sled used so I am not sure if any clutch work was done. I have not changed anything with the clutches since I bought it to warrant failure.

Maybe time for a rebuild, have you cleaned them. Could be a bad bushing.

I have never cleaned them. Is the best way to clean to pull both off and stick them in the dishwasher?

Yeah take it off the sled and take them apart, I wash them in the sink with hot water and dawn dish soap.

Does anyone have any other thoughts. Do nytros have motor mount issues by any chance? I tried moving the motor around a bit by grabbing the primary and it seems fine, but that is a possibility as well.

One other thing I just noticed looking over the primary tonight. There are some pretty good grooves in the sheave faces. Could this possibly be the reason I am blowing belts so quickly?

Make sure your bulkhead is not bent a friend of mine bulkhead was bent and he was going through belts too.

Well I know my subframe is bent. I just thought about it more and all of this started happening after I tweaked my subframe. How can I check for a bent bulkhead? straight edge it?

Check it with a different sled that is not bent and or the other side .

I have an 06 apex with belt problems also. I have 8500 mi on it and never blown a belt till around 6800 mi. Alignment checked, bushings and springs replaced. No one seems to be able to have the answer. Like you, I do have grooves or waves in the sheeves. Thats the last thing to be replaced. Good luck!

belt slippage is big cause of heat which causes belts to come apart , try tightening the wrap on your secondary before getting all carried away with other mods
