Major belt problems

Slipping belts are the problem most likely. I use ScotchBrite to rub down surfaces of both clutches all surfaces center and out, then clean the surfaces of the clutches. I like ScotchBrite as it does not spill any residue like the papers does, don't like dirt inside my clutches.

In all my RX-1s and Apex (3 sleds) I have not grenaded one singe belt since December 2002, but I look after my clutces on a regular basis. In addition to clutch alignment you also want to adjust offset to 15 milimeter +/- 1.5 millimeter. I would also take a look at belt ride height, should be from 0.5 millimeter above the edge of the secondary to 1.5 millimeter below the edge.

Might sound like a dumb question but when you rub down your clutches, the engine IS NOT running correct?

No the engine is not running, doing that is dangerous and should never be attempted.

I often do this work with the clutches taken off the the sled and disassembled, much easier to do a good clutch cleaning job on the workbench.

You could rub the clutch faces with the clutches on the sled but it is much harder work and you will not be able to rub very well down in the secondary clutch.

I have 10000 miles on my RS Venture and the only problem I really have had is that it goes through belts rather quickly. (The top and sides chunk away). I need to try some of the tips that were given.

belts

I have went through 9 belts in 5000 miles n my 06 vector. yamaha does not have an answer. getting 18 miles to the gallon but using saved money to buy belts. so in 5000 miles i have replaced exhaust donuts, 9 belts, one oil tank. shock adjusting cable, left side front suspension bushings, everything but the belts under YES, so that is good. I love the sled but fearful of the costs facing me when the warranty runs out.

That's excessive, in my turbo sled I have only destroyed 1 belt, all other belts lasted more than 2000 miles before I changed them. I still use the old ones as spares when out riding as they are only down to 33.7 millimeters and have a lot wear left. I have 13800 kms or 8500 miles on the sled.

I run the stock 8DN-something-00 belts and will continue to do so for as long as I can get hold of them.

I would check your alignment ASAP.

I fear the same once my warranty runs out, but by then the sled will either be gone or relegated to #1 sons sled.

i have over 3,000 miles on my original belt new spare has not left the belt guard since new. belt is still above the secondary havent measured it but it looks to be fine height wise. regular maintenance helps i check my sled out after every ride and grease, and clean clutches regularly. my srx gets the valves cleaned every 500 miles never broken a cable or peplaced a valve from pull through. plus it's fun to to the maintenance on these, or at least it's more fun to maintain than repair.

did you ever jack the rear end up and make shore the track is moving free it maybe jammed just an ideal. the kiss factor, keep it simple stupid
