I'll tell you where this idea goes wrong... the fact that so many "law enforcement officers" are on the wrong side of the law. It would basically mean that if nobody's looking, any cop could shoot someone dead and its just their word that the someone was doing some kind of horrible crime (whatever their imagination comes up with). At least if they're forced to bring you in alive, you have the chance to defend yourself and bring the scum cop down for breaking protocol when done defending yourself.
There is a major problem in north american law enforcement in that it isn't necessarily about stopping or preventing crime, it is about bringing someone in for something to generate revenue. I sometimes thing that rather than printing on cop cars "to serve and protect", it should be "out to get ya". The real problem comes in when they bring someone in for something small enough that it isn't *worth it* to defend yourself -- the cop gets a pat on the back, and if they do this enough, eventually a promotion.
Even for stupid crap: some kid steals some stuff from a convenience store -- they get pushed through the cop crap and charged with something stupid (which isn't worth defending against, so convicted without a hearing), cost on the tax payers of hundreds or thousands of dollars rather than the time honored tradition of letting the kid's father carry out the punishment and have the kid pay it back or work it off. Total cost is whatever it takes for the cop to drive the kid home.
And then you have the dishonorable business of parking tickets (and similar)... they don't hurt your license, and it costs you more than the ticket just to SHOW UP to say that you're going to fight it (and of course you don't have any evidence, so you can't win this anyway)... so they blanket ticket vehicles that are parked LEGALLY.
I'm sick of crooked cops and would *NEVER* trust a cop with a serious matter. Yes of course I realize that there are some good cops, I've even met a few. But there's no way to know and there's enough of the crooked ones to taint the whole system.

LB, for this post I'd say you seriously need to get your head examined.....
All Law Enforcement is evil and corrupt??????? Law enforcement is now a money maker for society as it's purpose? Are these your points?????
You know how many open gun cases I have right now??? Violent crimes???
Any ideas of that stuff or did you just get a parking ticket last week that you are still P.O.'d about.
This thread is about robberies, burglaries, and thefts -- not parking infractions.
Sorry about my abrupt post, but why interfere in a valid post and start pointing fingers at law enforcement for issues completely unrelated to the topic? These fine individuals are out dealing with people who you personally would rather not deal with, for safety and other reasons, so give them a little slack. Then at the end of the day they are expected to go home and be completely normal, like nothing happened. Thats' a tough proposition for officers. Society ask a lot of them physically and mentally, and gets ALOT in return. And if you think they are getting rich, think again.
Sorry, but I ask you to rethink your views.

Whoa I think we got a little off the beaten track here. I never meant that the guys on the street had anything to do with what has become of law enforcement. The policies and procedures are all controlled by those in much higher positions. I think that over time we were led away from what the function of the police was to where we are today and it is all driven by the policy makers.
I don't & I know TTY doesn't want this to turn political I am just saying that yrs ago if someone stole my bike someone looked into it.

Boys what a difference a year makes, last year at this time asked a simple question about how people store and cary firearms and got basically nothing short of a good flogging. I am glad to see that the site as moved in a new direction.

So basically what you're saying if I read it right was that a friend of your buddy took your bike from your yard not knowing it was your bike. Sounds like a theft to me as he was thinking he was stealing it from someone else. I would give him a throttling. LB I guess I didn't make myself clear enough I was talking about the situation referred to in the post where the officer said they had caught someone in the act of robbing a 90 yr old woman with a weapon and they were reprimanded for excessive force. In my opinion any slimeball that is robbing a 90 yr old woman with a weapon deserves nothing but the finest lead injection. I did say heinous crimes and I guess I should have included where witness' are involved. I understand where your coming from but I think a few bad apples have skewed your opinion. Back several years ago I had a 1971 Barracuda that was a drag car and some kids pushed it off the blocks I stored it on for the winter and damaged the frame and stole some parts off it. i know who took the parts as my parts ended up on another car that visited a known drug dealers house just down the road. I called the Police to report the vandalism and the theft and told them I knew who had the parts and they said there was nothing they could do as I couldn't prove the parts came off my car and but to let them know if I had any further problems. I responded by telling them if there were any further problems I would just call an ambulance to come get the scumbags I had just killed. He responded by saying make sure their on your property. I have several friends that are officers so I know how their hands are tied most of the time. Geneyamahas said:Yamadog said:Whoa I think we got a little off the beaten track here. I think this thread is about being ripped off by some of societies less desireables. Then it evolved into what some might do if confronted with a situation where they caught such a thief. Funny and frank discussions.
But please gentlemen, let's not let this evolve to where we vent our frustrations at law enforcement.
LB, I'm sorry for my reaction, but you said some offensive things.

Very good points from everyone and every situation will not be the same.
All I can say is that if someone enters my house and my kids and wife are there screaming, this person is leaving in a body bag! Period! They know damn well what they are doing and know damn well they are in the wrong when they crossed that windowsill or doorstep.
A man enetered a house where my wife's friend lives and raided the medicine cabinet while she and her husband were upstaires. They heard the noise and came down to see the man leaving the house. This seems to be a big problem these days. The police also told me this problem is on the arrise also, so beware.
Well, guys, I just purchased a camera system from a business that went under this summer. It has 4 cameras and have just purchased more motion detectors and will be putting these up this week beofre the big storm comes Wednesday. My son was so scared Thursday that he took his cap gun outside in case the guy was still out there (guess that was his way of protecting himself). Bad part was he forgot he had it in his pocket and when he went to school, it dropped out of his jacket pocket and someone saw it and reported it to the principal. He got in lots of trouble and after the principal talked to us, he decided not to suspend him from school, which was very good cause that can go on your record.
So, I guess.....where do you draw the line? If someone is in my house, I will not let him take 1 step closer to me, that is a fact! What if he is in my shop, I open the door and he comes charging at me to try and get out? He will be going down 1 way or another so he will be caught and charged when the coroner (oops) police come to get him. Either way, this stealing and theft has to be taken more seriously and if they know that they will be loosing a finger compared to getting a slap on the hand, they will think twice about doing it.

Guys this is how you handle these guys....and the cops...
How to call Police when you're Old.
George Phillips , an elderly man, from Meridian, Mississippi, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.
George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things
He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?"
He said "No," but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me.
Then the police dispatcher said "All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available."
George said, "Okay."
He hung up the phone and counted to 30.
Then he phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them." and he hung up.
Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

I too worry about my kids and wife when I am not around. I live in a small town in upstate NY with some white trash and quite a few heroin addicted punks. I have a lot of nice stuff that they would rob in a minute. My guns will kill them but nothing will scare them more than a good ole dog. My 90 pound boxer is as sweet as a baby until you threaten one of my family or go on my property unannounced. He won't bite but he will intimidate you into leaving quickly. This dog is the best thing I could have done for peace of mind when I am not around. Get a intimidating looking dog and install a wireless fence so the dog can patrol at will.
