The top spring is for ride height only, second is for trail chop, the third is for bigger hits. I do think that the increased dropout helps the sled handle better under acceleration ,keeping the skis in contact with the snow.

Thanks for the reply LeeKo. going to Maine on Friday. I will let you no how the TR springs work out. Did you set the preload on your rear spring the same way ?

I would look to be about in the middle of the control rods when you sit on the sled. I have Ohlins and I pretty much left them at the factory settings.
If I were going to use the stock shocks I would look to add a dual rate spring for the center shock or remove a little pre-load. I think this would improve the handling also.

Just ordered the triple rate kit for the front!!!
Can't wait to get this thing to work in the corners finally.

Leeko,
Thanks for sharing your experience with Hygear spring upgrade. I continue to hear great things about Hygear, and I'm thinking this may be the next off season upgrade to my Rage.
Any chance you could share some pics? Thanks!

Nice....thanks for sharing. Sled looks a little crowded with all those little ones on it!! Can't wait until mine get old enough to wear a helmet and share my passion for snowmobiling.LeeKo said:

Sprintcat,
Glad to hear you like the tr springs.
Ohlins will give you a more progressive ride. Softer intial travel which will be better in the stutters, they stroke better and have more bottoming resistance. The Ohlins are just far more robust than the stock stuff.

LeeKo, so with the these springs the front end stays more planted going around a corner to help high siding or ski lift. In stock forum does the sled seem to want to roll over? Did you tighten your limiter strap at all?

Flatter handling because more sit in allows you to keep on the gas in the corners because the skis stay in contact with the snow and you have a lower center of gravity.
I left the limiters alone. I don't think this sled needs more ski pressure and it takes away shock travel.

I'd testify that triple rate springs are useful in reducing steering pressure on the XTX. I don't agree that they are the "answer" for cornering. For any problem solved another is created. What happens is your front end preload is reduced. Translation? The front end is lowered. That can only lead to the center shock preload being increased. The question is what happens to the rear? Do you increase rear preload to maintain balance? Well, no, because then the steering effort would increase again. What that leaves is a fulcrum in the center. It may not bite you on glass-flat trails, but beware in the bumpy corners. At least this is what I have experienced. If I wanted to make a really fast cornering sled for smooth trails I'd lower the whole sled, not just the front. But that would reduce travel and kill bump performance, let alone powder performance.
My XTX #1 has Ohlins on all four and will out-corner XTX #2 with stock shocks in back and triple rate equipped stock shocks in front. No contest. #1 will run circles around #2 and the lowered front end in the snow. But XTX #2 has easier steering. Pick your priority.
I'm not saying anybody here is right or wrong. I'm just providing honest feedback from my experience.

But, by how much lower? I don't the front of the sled to be 3" lower then what stock is... That's pretty low, but maybe a 1" to 1.5". Does this happen with the TR springs?

I find it hard to believe some of you guys dont like the way your XTX's handle..
My buddy is a VERY hard rider and says the XTX stock rails better than any sled he has had since his 2002 Arctic cat Cross Country 800.. (which handled on rails and rode awsome)

I actually agree with welterracer! I have no problems with the way my XTX handles in different types of conditions! I think the front GYT-R clickers perform really well and are by far the best shocks I've ever had on any of my previous sleds! Handles and corners well and really sucks up the rough stuff! The rear I find quite satisfactory but there is a bit of room for shock performance improvement there. I'm not saying it's the best riding sled on snow but I think it does an excellent job! All I've done is put Woody's carbides on my stock skis and adjust all of my shocks for the way I ride. I'll probably put MTX skis onfor next season to get a bit more float out of it. I realize everyone rides different and that everyone has different preferences but the way dome guys say how bad it is I guess I just don't see it or get it! Either way, cheers and have fun!
