I have always run my track just tight enough to not ratchet. As loose as it is now, it'll only ratchet when I have mega traction (on grass). BTW, when idling on a stand, the track spins effortlessly by hand.
If I were to head up North for some serious lake runs I'd tighten it a bit to keep ballooning to a minimum.

Well...i agree I like a loose track for best wear and best top speed...
however,if you run the track TOO LOOSE,and are running alot of twisty trails like we have in muskoka...you will find your clips can tear the edges of the sliders....and in severe cases peel a slider.....its not pretty.
I try to run mine pretty loose but just be careful if you run the twistys.....also was another reason i added the 4th axle wheel.

When you tighten your track, do you measure the tension or do it by feel / eye? I am afraid of the "ballooning" and catching the cast muffler cross bracket with the studs. I bottomed real hard in Eden the other night and there now are scrape marks on it...
I tried installing anti wear pads last night, couldn't seem to get them true and tight to the track. The washers hit the square at the bottom of the treads and wouldn't suck the pad down any further? Might be OK for a thicker track?
Took them off out of fear it would cause vibration on the hyfax...
