MCX Turbo, insane AF values, cannot drive...

Thinking it over, ther might be a leak somewhere, that is sealed at 3 bar, and starts leaking at 4... Thought i smelled som gas after the ride, but did not think about it....
Out in the garage tomorrow :D Maby there is hope :D

Got some work done today, but far from enough. Need more hours in my day, work and other things takes too much of the 20something i have now :)

Did test the AF sensor, workes great.

Took apart the vacum hoses from the "pulse box", blew through them, all good, and zip-tied them back on. Pressure tested the lines from the box(to gauge, valve and ecu). Holds 1bar with no leaks :) (did not test before)

Mounted test gauge for gass pressure.

Took out the gas-pressure regulator, looks like the vacuum here did not seal good, but not sure. Adjusted the pressure a little lower(ended to low, but thats a fix for later). Tested that it reacts to vaccum and pressure =Good :)

Thighted up alot of hose-clamps on the fuel line, might been some leaks here, these where not tight!

Took the Intercooler inside my house, its ICE in it....

TODO List:
Check the fuel lines to the extra injectors for leaks and empty the IC for whater.
Find the solder points for the MCX ECU(on map sensor, tps and maby one more?(have a list)) and see if they are good/fix/improve.

Fasten a million zip-ties, bolts, nuts, covers and so on.

Start a test.

Did i forget anything?

Just hook up a gauge , check standard pressure , mark with a marker or tape . Go for a ride , when sled acts bad , glance at the gauge , will tell you fast !

Thats was a good idea :)
Think i'm goeing to do a + 0.4-0.5 bar quick check on the system with a air pump just to se that it reacts like i want before i take it to a real test.
My gauge messures like 0-12 bar, need a smaler scale to see better. What gauge do you use?

Doing it on a stand in the garage does not work, real world riding is the answer , hook up a gauge and go, when the sled acts up glance at the gauge , Bet the fuel pressure drops off .

I had a SC Nitro 2 years ago did the same thing , ran awesome for 1/8 mile then would go too lean to go another 200 ft .
Was the fuel pump running out of volume ,took lots of testing to find the problem , changed the inlet filter , all good .

My 290 Apex runs perfect , you would think , totally stock until you squeezed the throttle , and you better be haning on !!! Wow what a ride !

Thank you!
Will move the gauge so it's the last item on the fuel "sircle", and test as soon as i have seen over all the soldering and wires(just to be shure, now that everything is apart)
I will get back as soon as i have tested.

This sled realy HATES me!
Got most of my sled(what's needed to start) back in order. Took of the vacuum line to the malpassi pressure regulator, there was ice.... heated and plew trough it = empty...
Back on with it...
Started the sled in the garage, lifted belt and so on.. Adjusted pressure to 3bar.

When hitting throttle, i got to about 0.5 bar of boost(run 08-09 on this setup), and did NOT se any more than MABY a 0.1bar more fuel. Think it was stuck at 3 where i left it.
So i grabbed a tool and pressed the return fuel line, and the pump easy made 4 bars so the pump is good. Did not see any leaks either.
I will try to warm the regulator tomorrow, make sure there's no ice in it, and test again.
Guess thers no need for field test, when it dosnt work in the garage either?

One more issue. Had checked the TPS in diagnostic before, hits values at 16 closed, 98 WOT.
Cannot make the reverse work. Did stop and turned the key directly to start = reverse works. Goes in to diag, same reading 16-98...
Think i'll start a new thread on this one...

Just noticed , is this sled a phazer , I thought it was an Apex .

If it is a Phazer has it ever ran well yet?

If not , pull off the muffler , go for a test ride , I will bet lots it runs well!

If so , let me know and I can tell you how to fix it !! Been there , done that !

Yes, but the one who sold it to me did a mod to the exhaust, maby this made it worse? I can test, but not sure how this affect the insane AF values?

Is the gas pressure supposed to increase identical to turbo pressure?

I am not sure but , I think a 3/1 increase.
3 lbs fuel pressure for every 1 lb boost !

Try pulling the muffler off , go for a ride !

Thanks again for all the help! I have now figured out alot, and got an answear to issues others have had.

gsxr: you're info on the gass pressure beeing the problem was correct(well i havent done a complete test yet, but i feel good about this)

I went to the garage to take the end muffler of, but i figured i'd bring the heat gun with me since i've been thinking alot about the ice in the vacuum hose.

When i got to the garage, i disconected the vacuum from the malpassi fuelregulator, supplied by mcx on many setups. I took the heatgun and did an "easy heat up", a little ower freezing point. and i held the regulator with the inlet for the vacuum hose down. Suddenly it starts dripping a brown water mixture. After a while shaking & heating the regulator, i have gotten alot of fluid that has been ice, out of the regulator. Seems to be rusty water, all of it. So i got some electric cleener, knowing this "removes water" and dissapears quick. I "hosed it clean" with the cleener, and used an airgun blowing sideways into the hole, cleening it as good as possible without taking it apart.

Now starting the sled, i notice that the standard pressure has dropped about 0.2 bar(what might be expected from the vaccum in the intake).
I adjusted it back to little over 3 bar, and tested with the belt in the air. I see movement :D The fuelpressure suddenly moved up when the turbo charged, and i had no issues before it hit the rev litmit. I dont have much room in my back yard, but i gave it a spin on the ice, no issues. So i feel good that it might work now :)
Thoug i'm not to happy with my regulator beeing rusty on the inside, lets se how long it works. I'll see if its possible to take it apart for service.

So, we know that the fuel pressure regulators on the phazers stops working on the turbo pazers, but i have never heard why. Well, it might be an issue on stock also. I'll try to explain so that someone that googles this thread later on, might find an answear. 2 issues/errors done, one by Yamaha and one by MCX:
Yamaha:
The regulator from yamaha has the vacumhose intake on the top, making it close to impossible for water that comes in, to get out. Its upside down.
MCX: The hose connector on the cooler, is in a way that makes it possible for water in the ic to get into the regulator, it should have been higher and ther should have been a draining plug on the IC.

When i mounted the regulator, i did it as close as i could get to the regulator mounted by yamaha. This making me also mounting it "upside down". (stupid me, but i might not be the only one, so i guess sharing this might be good).

Now beeing the "right way" whater can go back the way it came.
I hope this beeing my only issue, and maby ill be able to get high enoug with car, that i can find snow and test tomorrow(little snow here).

This might be an issue for all running extra regulators, and nytro, apex and so on might also see this issue.
It also answears to why the sled got worse when it got hot(ice melted...)

Again.
Thank you for the help on this issue.

BUT:
My TPS is still an issue, cannot get into reverse without turning the key directly to start...

and one more thing:
Never got to take the muffler of, but i tested in "alot of noice mode", didnt notice difference in my yard and didnt want to bother my neigbours any more. Anyhow, can you give me info on the mod? Maby it will run better :D

Tested today :)Took the car and got as close tho the little snow that was left, that it was possible to get... out for a test..

The snow thats left is HARD, and i goot good grip most of the time. Anyhow, lots of bumps, stones and other objects makes it hard to test full throtle and see the instruments.
Anyhow, I had no trouble getting lots of power of the sled, so it works :D
I'm also running with a more "open" exhaust choise, will bring the plugs for the silent choise to see, but i'm quite shure its no big difference.

Anyhow, i would like to know what mod you where talking about, gsxr :)

TPS stil an issue..... what to do, what to do???
