We were up at the cabin this weekend and nothing with a batery would turn over. 2 stoke guys had to wrap a rope around the primary and 2nd guy pulling the recoil to just turn the motor over. Had to heat up my GT with propane heater to get going. Just too cold for the Yammy. Once I got it going it slalled 5 times before it ran half decent. This is a snowmobile, it should be able to start better in sub zero temps.

DAMN,...you do realize at MINUS 40 the Farenheit and Celsuis scales become equal....so you were also 40 below F!..WOW.
Do you guys actually ride in that stuff?...I wouldnt be out in that personally...LOL.
I dont think many motors will run properly in those temps....maybe adding a engine heater would have you up and running faster at those temps?..and obvously FULL SYNTH oils..wow.

I didn't either. I just used my Convert program and -46celcius is -50.8 Fahrenheit.

It builds character to ride in this stuff. Our ride was almost all trail and deep forest runs. GT bars are pathetic, but if you wear the right mitts, not gloves you're comfortable. As far as synthetic oil, has anyone run it in there Apex?

We stayed home but my buddies went out. '04 RX1, '06 Vector and Cat T660 wouldn't start Sunday morning. Mind you it took them almost two hours of dicking around to get their truck started as well.

Not worth the effort in that cold IMHO.

Our winters are getting shorter so you have to get in what you can and dress accordingly, or this snowmobile industry will be short lived.

check my SIG....after first 1100 miles last season, went to redline 5w20.
it defintely will flow better at those temps...man that is just SICK COLD!...
guantlets would be a must and HI window for sure...even with my HOT GRIPS,you would freeze in seconds at 50below!....damn!..
I would stay near the fire....but I suppose if you went up there to ride, and were there specifically for riding, then you gotta ride right!

We were riding in fresh unbroken lakes with 2-3 feet of light fluff and the cold was the last thing on our minds. The morning temps were cold but by noon it was -26 celcius which was warm. Gaunlets were a must and we were 45 sleds no break downs and very little frost bite.
