This guy is as full of #*$&@ as a christmas goose. Dealers like that, which constitutes a lot of them treat everyone like idiots. There are a lot of elder people in this sport with no mechanical background and will believe everything the stealer tells them. I run Mobil 1 0-30 with no problems at all, and contrary to what Yamaha recommends, I change my filter every time I change my oil. I can believe Yammi supports the idea of contaminating new oil with a dirty filter. Run that by your dealer and see what he says.

welterracer said:I used Mobile 1 for a long time on my sled.. but i heard alot of people talking about how the yamalube was speciallly formulated for the starter and mobil 1 isnt..
I know my super charged sea-doo jet boat uses a special ash type full synthetic oil, specifically designed for the supercharger, and any use of any other oil will void the warranty..
Is that "special" oil just a special API or JASO grade? Or do they tell you that you have to use their BRAND of oil?
From what I have read on here (and there's a lot, good lucking finding it again) the concern with fully synthetic oil is the starter. Apparently it requires some friction to engage and the concern was that fully synthetic oil would be "too slippery" at very low temperatures and would prevent the starter from engaging. That being said, I haven't read on here that anyone has actually had this happen, so as far as I can see its a theory only. Apparently if it does, the solution is to either warm the sled up, or drain the oil and replace it with semi-synthetic. Full synthetic won't do any permanent damage.
And realistically, even here in Manitoba, daytime temperatures of -30 or worse are rare.

Yamaha now has 0-40 fully syn oil. Must have been losing a lot of revenue to fully syn oils. I still like M1 fully syn oil in my Attack.
