Hey everyone, I snow checked a new Nytro XTX and starting to put a list together of all the things I want/need/should do to it. Just looking for some opinions and any help you could provide! Well here is what i've come up so far, love to hear the pros/cons of these.
1. Extrovert drivers (i keep reading ski-doo but why? what about the mountain ones on the yamahas?)
2. With the new extroverts a new track, fully clipped, hoping they extend the length of that new cobra track it sounds like a good fit for the XTX if not, gonna just go with a 1.25 ripsaw, never had any problems with it before.
3. Studs.....I know many are not a fan of studs, especially on such a long track sled, but i'm doing it more for safty then performance, i've had my share of experience when you DON'T have studs....its painful.... so which ones and how long ...thinking just down the middle.
4. Either taking the skis on my current sled (Simmons Gen 2) or trying snowtrackers, or Powderhounds....
-------
5. Clutching...?? never clutched before Gearing...??never changed gearing before so no idea what to expect good or bad?
6. thinking about that new GYTR exhust thats supposedly in the accessories catalog that isn't out yet and pissing me off!
7. Shocks upgraded/revalved from Hygear.
---So the list is long and i'll probably won't get to all of it right away or have all the money for it right away, but the first 1-4 i think is a need to do thing right away. What is anyone else thinking thats getting an XTX or has experience working with the Nytro and getting more performance on it? Thanks for your its greatly appreciated!

Guys use extrovert driver's mostly in mountian, long tracked and boosted applications. When track ratcheting is more of a concern.
You could use OEM Yamaha 3" pitch drivers, if you are using a 3"pitch track ie 141"(Cat), 153" and 162"
Some Ski-Doo tracks, and now Polaris are 2.86" pitch tracks. They would be 146" 154" and I believe 163". For these tracks you would need non-XP 2.86" pitch drivers.
2.52" pitch tracks are 121", 136", 141", 144", 151" and I think 162". Which of course use 2.52 drivers.
It use to be most everything was 2.52 pitch.
As you can see it's possible to have the same length track, but a different pitch! The whole thing has gotten kind of wacky lattely, with the sled companies trying to trim pounds from the tracks. Larger pitch = fewer clips and greater spacing between lugs, and usually a lighter track.

most were using the ski doo drivers because they were the cheapest price and most effecient since you loose some effeciency with extrovert drivers. Problem is doo drivers are only available with drive shaft now. Wahl bros would be next choice but more coin. Mountain drivers are 7 tooth and you need 9 tooth. Personally I wouldnt bother with extroverts if your not turbo since if your ratcheting your track is simply too loose. And most on here get faster speeds with a tight track then a loose track. Same thing with my apex rtx. I run it on yamaha spec and have better speed and less slide wear than when I ran it loose. I have no idea why though. Any aftermarket ski should help, esp since the xtx is a crossover and stock yamaha skis dont float for beans. If I order my xtx I will probaly go with c&a outlaws(awesome in the loose stuff or deep pow) If the xtx is setup like most yammies clutching will be great out of the box but could be improved for deep snow running though. Ive heard the ride is great but we wont know till we get some miles on them. You might like it as is but if not hygear is def a great choice. My first mod will be the large 10.4 aftermarket tank and then some better floating skis.

Hey guys thanks for the reply that info def help, maybe i will hold off on the ratch drivers until i see how the sled performs, I had problems before with my warrior always ratcheting when i was playing in the feilds, had to tighten the track a little more then i wanted to thats the only reason why i felt i might need to do that to the XTX.
I did test drive the XTX in old forge a couple weeks ago, didn't get into any powder, mostly wet/slushy snow, couldn't really tell how well it pulled compared to my apex because of the snow conditions, but when we started going over the bumps, you just laugh because it goes over so easy, It will probably would do even better once I get it setup for myself, they only think i might do is have the shocks done over so i could have more adjustability since i ride on tug hill....which is usually rough as hell, but then we also go to Quebec 2 or 3 times a year where you don't need a suspension so you set it as soft as you can and just cruise for miles!
What about studs? probably a little odd to stud a 144 track but i would rather loose a little on top end and or any other negative, then flip a sled and risk breaking your neck. I just want to go down the middle. Again thanks for the input Alot of this stuff is new to me and it really helps when people take the time to help us newbies!

I was thinking of the GYTR exhaust also. Should an exhaust be put on after it is broke in or is it ok to put it on right out of the box?

Extros aren't just for the mountain guys. The tracks on the shorty nytros had to be tightened waay too much to stop the racheting unless you tightened the limiters up, which in my case couldn't be done because the holeshot would be lost. The extros in my case work great. The 1.25 ripsaw wouldn't be a bad track but the camoplast cross over 1.5 would probably be a better all around track for bite and hyfax wear.
Clutching , I would go with the dragon & flys. They pick up the acceleratioin big time. The two speeds seem to be having problems seizing up around here lately.

Thats a good question mash14, i'm sure if Yamaha is offering it as an accessory they deffinitly don't want it to cause any problems that they will have to fix (warranty) so i'm guessing it will be fine if you install it before its broken in unless other wise specified by Yamaha.
Topgun, I see your point with extros and the hole shot...thats where I was having problems with my Warrior and my father with his Attack...the hole shot in the field in deep snow. Its the most annoying thing in the world, thats why I wanted to change, I noticed it happend more often with the longer the track. I'll have to see first to see how it goes. If you don't mind me asking what extroverts did you go with and what could i expect to fork over in money?

I went for the wahl bros cause a store in my city had them already and I was in a hurry, but if you talk to Turk here on the forum i think he's getting the best deal I've heard of anywhere ( think I've heard 50 bucks a pop). Honestly, it's the first thing I would do before anything else. Save you alot of grief later. And, Simmons skis in my opinion.

XIpyretta,
Your wish list looks pretty much like mine. I talked to Camoplast and they said they will have the 144 cobra track for next season.
I was also thinking about the Gen II simmons, what do you think about them? I have the Gen I's on my RX-1 and made a huge difference in handling, however I was looking for something a little more precise for the XTX.
thanks

I talked to tracks usa & he never heard anything about a 144 cobra. If they do come out with one I will definately be installing one on my 09 xtx. The 121 cobra works killer on my 08 nytro.

LeeKo, I like the Gen 2 simmons for the most part, they will definitively float alot better, but sometimes i think because they are so wide that they take away from some of the agility in deep snow "flikability" i guess, then again i haven't had much time on them. I do think that I would opt for more aggressive carbides, they only have what came with them. The setup of the sled also makes a big difference on how the skis react for sure. Hope this helps ya.

Turk, did you stud the cobra track on your 08? If not, do you know if there was enough clearance to do so?
