I just got home my first apex. Had a nytro and phazer so now on to this. What popular mods would you recommend for this machine? Will be a trail only machine for now. Sled has simmons skis, studded ripsaw track, lake effect bar riser but otherwise stock with 3400 miles on it. The skid is a stock unit with 0 miles on it ( owner had a zx2 in it from new that he removed and would not sell!! ). Will be upgrading the wheels to 135 excell package and have a set of pioneer ft end bushings to install. What else?

Extrovert drivers to prevent any track ratcheting. This also means you need every window open in your track. A super sharp knife you can do this yourself. I touch the holes with a torch to smelt her all up lightly after. If your not comfortable with this method then add the cost of a new track. Then trim your rails so your drivers don't rub. The next thing would depend on your weight. I would send your shocks away and have them rebuilt. Even though it is a zero mile skid, those shocks will suck. After you add up all your costs, because really the list is far from over, you will realize that the simple cost of new ZX2 is, and I mean IS the best thing you can do. Others will chim in here, and most of the results will be simmilar. The skid is a fail!

A zx2 is in the plans for next year for sure in a 136 setup if I can find a good used one or a m10. Which clutch kit would be most recommended for this. I know there are several out there but which are a better trail setup and user friendly?

Knowing what I know, I would suggest you do something with the suspension, now! The stock suspension is a complete POS as is. Seriously. It's a nightmare. At minimum you need to have the shocks revalved and extroverts installed.
Making more power or trying to get additional power to the track the way it is now is a complete waste of time and money. It can't handle what it has now...

clutch kit,
I run stock "pos" rear skid, but its been extended to 136" I have NO issues with it at all. I would have to ride other skids to really decided to invest into something else.
Extroverts is a must with the stock skid! Hole saw bit works well to open windows.
Just my 2 cents.

For '07 RTX: Rear shock revalve, with center spring change by Pioneer Perf. 13mm sway bar. Ulmer Stage 2 clutch kit with airbox mod. and NGK CR10EK plugs. You will like it.
I wasted alot of time and money on that stock POS skid myself, You are correct 100%. The revalve helps tremendously but its still a sub par design compared to all other OEMs IMO.ahicks said:Knowing what I know, I would suggest you do something with the suspension, now! Sounds like I really need to try another skid out. I must be missing the boat.

I have had good luck with my rear suspension as far as broken parts, but if you keep the stock skid revalve is a must. I have the pioneer revalve with stiffer front spring and I feel that the ride is pretty good for stock shocks. I've owned better and definately worse. My only issue has been the inner idlers being torn up which were fixed with the Yamaha accessory spoke wheels. I have no hyfax mods extra/oversize wheels and hyfax are low but still pass the wrench test no problem after 2000 miles.
I don't have a ton of miles 4000 total but I certainly dont baby this thing. Do I slam over moguls hell yes. High speed jumps as often as I can. So far so good.
All this being said though if I rode at Tug Hill (yes I have ridden there with my cousins) or places with lots of rough terrain and moguls. I would probably ditch this setup and ZX2 it.

Anyone try a doo zx or popo skid with good results. The price of these zx skids are crazy expensive. Thinking of any alternatives in the 136 footprint to save some $ if possible. Curious how the stock shock calibrations would work on this thing being heavier and all.

I agree with everyone on the skid. The stock skid really is a POS. With everything stock you have to run the track so tight to control ratcheting that you loose speed, fuel economy and hyfax.
It is so bad that I installed extrovert drivers (Skidoo parts) after only 2 weeks with my new 07 RTX.
Stock the ride is also terrible. Revalving the shocks helps a ton, but it is impossible to get the ride as good as most other modern sleds. The bad news about revalving is if you are an aggressive and/or high mileage rider you'll likely end up with cracked pivot arms eventually. When the pivot arms crack you'll end up spending quite a bit repairing them and having them reinforced.
This year I'm considering replacing my RTX skid with a Pro-X snowcross racing skid, IQR skid or Doo skid. I can't remember exactly but I think it is the Pro-X snowcross racing skid I was looking at that is available for a low price but is too narrow to bolt i directly. Other than price, the advantage to it (based on what I've heard/read) is that since it is designed for snowcross it is pretty much indestructible and the top of the line racing shocks are fully rebuildable and can be revalved to provide an excellent ride. The reason they are cheap (complete with Walker Evans shocks) is a popular mod-mountain sled is to start with a Polaris snowcross sled, extend the tunnel and install an aftermarket mountain skid and long track. The skids end up having no use (out West).
There are threads hear that describe installing Doo and Poo skids in an Apex. Do a search here to find them.

Well, as I live and breathe.... Nice to hear from you ReX!!
For those of you that weren't around when Yammi first brought the Apex out with the "rough trail suspension", I'd like to reintroduce ReX. If that name sounds familiar but you can't quite place it, check out the author of the STICKY regarding shock valving at the top of this section - the one that's STILL THERE from back then.
It'll be interesting to watch for anything he writes regarding how he's going to move forward with his sled. I'm pretty sure he's going to have to do something. His skid has been welded so many times I think he may be just about convinced he has to?
Those that don't believe this skid has serious issues either haven't ridden it yet, haven't ridden a GOOD skid yet, don't ride on anything but freshly groomed trail, or are in complete self denial.
